If you’re thinking about visiting Ireland this year, and don’t want to do the typical Dublin, Cork or Galway tourist trip but instead you’d rather get to grips with the real Ireland; culture, language, music and sport, look no further than County Tipperary. Well known in Ireland for the lyrics "it's a long way to Tipperary", it will certainly be a journey worth making as the county and it's many towns, boasts some of the finest landscape on the island of Ireland. So next time you're thinking of a short trip to Ireland, here's 5 reasons why you should consider booking a hotel in the wonderful Tipperary.

1. The Hurling experience
Want to get to grips with Irish sport? If you’ve never heard of sports like Hurling, or Gaelic football then you’ll get a fine education in Tipperary. The county has a strong sporting history with a particular claim to hurling, along with Cork and Kilkenny, Tipperary forms the “Holy Trinitiy” in the Irish hurling world. As of 2010, county Tipperary have won a total of 80 All Ireland hurling titles - the third most successful of all county boards.

2. Knockmealdown Mountains
The Knockmealdown Mountains are situated on the borders of South Tipperary and Waterford and are amongst the most beautiful landscapes in all of Ireland. If its dramatic heights and a good outdoor activity you seek, look no further. Or, if you simply want to immerse yourself in some of Ireland’s most beautiful surroundings, head here. You’ll also be in great company as the mountain range is a breeding ground of the red grouse and the hen harrier. Cuckoo, nightjar, buzzard and Grasshopper warbler are also said to be seen up here.

Town markets are common in Ireland on a weekly, sometimes even daily basis. Tipperary offers you lots of markets but one that really stands out is that of Abbey Hall, Roscrea. Whilst you’ll have access to lots of local fresh produces, the real taste bud treat is found in the home baking. Held every Friday, you’ll find a selection of fine breads, scones, apple tarts, rhubarb tarts and lots more.

4. The Rock of Cashel
The town of Cashel is well worth a visit for anyone planning a "trip to Tipp" as the locals would say.  This medieval town is an Irish historic town and home to the Rock of Cashel, one of the most spectacular tourist destinations on the island of Ireland.  This is a spectacular group of medieval, gothic and Georgian buildings, is home to some impressive buildings and breathtaking scenery.  The Bolton Library which is in the Georgian quarter also happens to have the smallest book in Ireland, something worth getting along and seeing.  With attractions include an audio-visual shows, workshops and exhibitions, the Rock of Cashel can help you get a real feel for the history and heritage of both Tipperary and indeed the island of Ireland.

5. Relax in nature
If you’re feeling a bit like you’d like to get away from it all, peace comes in no better form than The Art and Healing Centre in Nenagh. A famously tranquil setting in North Tipperary, you’ll be able to receive Reiki treatments, spend time dancing, paining or simply enjoying the scenery. You can also enjoy classes here from trained artists!
