The Royal Palace itself houses the Hungarian National Gallery containing the best collection of Hungarian art in the country. Nearby, the Matthias Church is a colorful mix of gothic, baroque and Ottoman influences. You can then have a late brunch at Cafe Vian.
Spend the afternoon…
Bathing! There are more than 1,000 natural springs in the country of Hungary. 118 springs are in Budapest alone. The largest thermal bathing complex in Europe is on the pest side of the river in the capital. Another good swim spot is the art Nouveau. The hot waters of Budapest are of karstic origins. Because of the unique geological circumstances, thermal springs from the deeper layers of earth mix with the karst waters. Missing out on the springs of Budapest is like taking your family to Florida, and not visiting Disney World.
Soaking up what life has to offer in a healing spring like anything else, has a set of “bathing ethics” and guidelines that should be kept close in mind so that others and yourself may get the most positive experience during your bathing visit.
Never bathe on an empty stomach, or with a full one. It is advised not to consume any alcohol before bathing in a hot spring.
After taking a dip in the spring, a steam bath in the Kempinski Budapest spa is something that is preferred. It is recommended to never leave with a heated body. Always make sure your body cools down gradually.
Bathing for more than 40 minutes in the hot water pools is not advised. Most baths offer a warning sign with suggested time limits, so there’s no worry!
