Every visitor will require a tourist visa to India, except for the citizens of Bhutan and Nepal which border the continent. The government of India has recently introduced a 30 day, single entry E-Tourist visa for citizens of 150 different countries around the world.
If you require a visa that lasts for longer than this 30 day period and you are not from one of the listed countries, then the visa has to be acquired prior to actually arriving in the country. Some things that you will need to know and do to prepare for your India visa application can be found here.
Types of Visas
Visitors who plan on staying in India for a period less than three days Transit Visa. However, if this is not the situation, then they will need to require an Indian Tourist Visa. The tourist visa is typically issued for a period of six months, based on what nationality you are.
There are a number of countries that issue a visa for a shorter period of time, such as three months, or longer durations, such as 12 months. The majority of visas given are considered multiple entry visas.
A ten year visa is also able to be acquired from the U.S. Also, five year visas are available for 18 other countries including, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France.
Regardless of the duration of the Tourist visa, you will not be allowed to stay in the country of India for a period over 6 months, or 180 days, at once. Also, the five year visas only allow for visitors to stay for a period of three months or 90 days, at once.
There are a number of other visa types available for visitors to India, as well including Student Visas, Research Visas, Employment Visas and Business Visas.
The Cost of the Tourist Visa to India
The cost of the Tourist Visa for India varies according to the country of origin and the agreement that is present between the governments. From the U.S. you can expect to pay under $100 for a Tourist Visa; however, this number can change at any time. Taking the time to figure out the current numbers and costs will help you determine what the visa you need will cost.
Taking the time to research the visa process can help to make your trip much easier.
