The first thing that comes to mind when you say ‘Alps’ and ‘holiday’ is skiing, which is great fun and a sure way to spend your holiday exercising. But there are lots of other great activities to keep your holiday busy and unforgettable. Don’t forget to pack warm and get that ski insurance, because the Alps are going to be a veritable whirlwind of fun.
And whichever resort you choose, you’re bound to feel far away from all the worries of the world, ensconced in a beautiful, picturesque village and breathing the crisp mountain air.
1. Skiing
There are many marvellous ski resorts to visit. You can pick one that suits your wallet and skill level, as prices and slopes vary. The rule of thumb is that the higher resorts have more varied, steeper slopes and longer-lasting, deeper snow – but they also tend to be more expensive. If you are a beginner, try one of the lower-lying villages to start.

2. Unwind indoors in the evenings
If you fancy a bit of indoor time with friends and family to relax after the slopes, look at the list of activities offered at your hotel. There will usually be games like bowling and arcades on offer. You can ask about board games or just stay in and order a fun flick. The games and bowling are usually free for hotel guests!

3. Go ice-skating
Take a break from the slopes, hire some skates and hit the ice! This is one of the most popular winter sports out there, and it will make for great variety.

4. Sledding or tobogganing
You can take the kids for some quality sledding on the luge slopes – or take yourself to the grown-up slopes and remember those happy childhood winter days! Some of these are even open in the evenings, when you’ve set aside your skis. Ask at your hotel, but these usually tend to be free!

5. Cross-nature Skiing
If you want some variety in your adventure, then a guided cross-nature ski day may be just the thing. You’ll get to try out different cross-country skiing techniques and explore the tranquil, snowy wilds! This is great for both beginners and advanced skiers.

6. Take a look from above
If you have a taste for adrenaline, some resorts offer helicopter tours, paragliding and heli-skiing (available in Italy and Switzerland, and through adventure companies).

7. Shopping!
Have a lazy day and hit the pretty village in search of some great bargains. You’ll be sure to find both sports equipment shops and fashion outlets for some quality shopping time.
Our list should get you started on making the most of your holiday in the Alps, because there’s so much to do, you’ll never get bored.
