The fine folks over at TMBR in Westerville, Ohio let me try out a pair of their more fashionable pairs: the Alpine Walnut & Maple framed sunglasses. TMBR is a fine eyewear company who specializes in wood frames. And to be honest, I’d be doing a great disservice to TMBR if I didn’t rave about their beauty. The craftsmanship of their sunglasses appears to me to be unrivaled by almost all other eyewear professionals. Seriously, they’ve mastered the art of wooden glasses, and it’s about time everyone knew.
On the pair I had the chance to trial, the wood grain was the star, brilliantly carved, shaped and finished unlike any pair I’ve seen. The wood is layered, visible from the top and sides, so it creates a multi-layered and colorful grain design. There are wood inlays and engravings on the outer and inner frame: “Feel the grain” is marked inside. The lenses are of quality, and are polarized, which is a must in any quality pair of sunglasses.
What I liked most is the look and feel of the frames, but the quality offered by TMBR doesn’t stop there… Each pair of their sunglasses comes with a lovely, fitted case made of fine leather, offering optimum protection. As with any product review, I strive to keep the balance of what is good and bad about a particular item. It can often be a struggle, and indeed in this case I’ve been unable to fault much of anything TMBR has done with the Alpine frames. They are awesome shades. Except for one unfortunate detail. I am one of those sad individuals who possess a wider than average head, apparently, and therefore, my only critique is that the TMBR line only carries a one size option. While the Alpine frames are gorgeous, I am unable to fully enjoy them as they are slightly too small for my overly large head. Kind of feelin’ like Pinky and the Brain over here. All kidding aside, TMBR makes a great product.
