Considering my upcoming travel plans

Although I am heading back to the states in November to see family and friends for the holidays, I am actively planning a few road trips and small trips to various places around the country and possibly overseas. While some of my upcoming plans are up in the air a bit, as I speak with a few international tourist boards, I know surely that I will be making a trek to Nashville and Tampa to see a few of my best friends. When I left for Spain in April, a lot of my friends scattered throughout the country, with some landing in the country music capital of the world and another choosing to reside along the sunny, beachside coast of Florida. It’s interesting, because almost none of my friends (especially the ones I grew up with) are like me – it seems that no one but me had the wanderlust bug. Which is probably why some of my friends and family treated me like a virus when I first announced my intent to roam abroad for the next year. But I digress...
Even though I knew this is how it worked – the interesting thing to me is how certain destinations are so much more affordable during certain times of the year. And of course that makes sense as peak times dull and winter hits western societies, as traveling to warmer locales becomes quite the typical thing for many. I’ve thought how it would be nice to expand my photography portfolio by traveling to some of the less popular winter destinations (like Alaska or northern United States, or southern Canada) to shoot some snowy winter wonderland type shots. And perhaps I might, but I will likely wait until the last minute to decide, since the flights to a lot of those sorts of destinations are offered cheaper than usual, to draw people in a bit more – though, some destinations hike up the prices too, depending how rare flight availability is.

Then I started thinking that it would be nice for me to have a real vacation, if I’m even capable of putting down the camera and the laptop, and letting loose. Winter in Ohio is definitely not a treat and so perhaps a visit to Hawaii or the southern parts of the country might suffice – I mean, I’ve never been to Texas yet, and Austin sounds like a great place to visit.

So, as I search and consider, and things change, I look forward to the possibility of a partnership with an international tourist board, so that I may find myself enjoying the winter months in Jordan or in the Caribbean – but for now, it’s simply something I’m looking into. However, I have decided that a travel writer from the USA (let alone from the northeastern part) that has never visited New York City, NY has something very wrong with his priorities... Therefore, I will be heading to NYC for sure, as well as visiting a few friends around the nation.

Are you planning to head out for the winter? What do you have planned? I’m curious, because maybe I’ll just have to join you in a warm place, to escape the bone-chilling cold of Ohio winters.

Before you hit New York try to book a Big Apple Greeter, I've been twice and seen things with them that you would never find on your own. Amazing!

Hmm, I may do this! I like to explore and this may be something fun and interesting to try. What was your favorite part of visiting there? Do you have any recommendations of places in which I should visit?

So glad you are making it to Austin! You won't be disappointed. Great food/great live music/great nightlife on 6th street. I try to make it there once a year as I miss it. If you're doing NYC, you should also pass through Boston. I'm sure you're getting tons of tips and can't do them all, but I love the history of Boston ;) For me, I haven't figured out any winter getaways, yet. But, I was thinking Hawaii since I'm on the west coast, and for some reason places like Costa Rica and Belize keep popping up on my radar. We'll see. Jordan sounds fascinating BTW.

Ah, Belize! I think that Belize would be a great place to just get away and sit and write. A place like this could really get the juices flowing, and work will just begin to pour out! Have you decided when you are going to take some time away to do this?
