The island of Formentera is one of the six Balearic Islands. Located off the east coast of Spain, this island is part of the Ses Salines natural reserve with pristine beaches.
This gem of an island is known for its secluded coves, pristine beaches and pine forests. There are sandy beaches and stone beaches. The island, deemed to be Ibiza's little sister, has many clubs and restaurants.

Beaches and secluded coves
The beaches on this island are natural beaches, many of which are backed by dunes. Playa Illets is one of the island's most famous beaches, with several kilometers of white sand stretching towards the azure waters. Located close to the port, the beach is filled with many traditional restaurants where visitors will be able to enjoy fresh seafood. There are many smaller seaside restaurants, called chiringuitos, which serve a variety of seafood and fried fish. The northern tip of the beach is an official nudist reserve. The rest of the beach offers many water sports facilities.

Cala Saona is a horseshoe-shaped bay near the main city, Sant Francesc. The bay has a sandy beach decorated with large red stone formations and inlets. The turquoise waters are filled with small fishing boats, and there are a couple of seafood restaurants nearby.

Playa Llevant is a beach on the eastern coast of the island. From here visitors will be able to enjoy views towards the nearby island of Ibiza. The beach is known for its fierce waters, salt pans and sand dunes. Part of the beach is a nudist territory.

Playa la Savina is located close to the town of La Savina. This beach has gleaming white sands and blue waters shimmering below the green pine trees.

Located on the south of the island is one of the island's longest beaches. Playa Migjorn has more than 6 kilometers of white sands, secluded coves and a variety of bars and restaurants. This beach has a nudist beach. Es Arenals, a beach east of Playa Migjorn, has several windsurfing clubs. The clear waters attract many snorkelers. Another popular snorkeling spot is the cove of Es Caló. The sandy seabed is embedded with minerals and colourful stones that reflects the light.

Another beach is Playa Es Pujols, a beach with a rocky shoreline backed by sand dunes. This beach is far more crowded than the rest, and there are many hotels and resorts nearby. This beach is ideal for families who want to have plenty of amenities nearby and for those who visit the island for a seaside holiday and to practice water sports.

Traditional cities and yachts near the port
The city of Sant Francesc is the main city on the island. This small city has a cobblestone square with an ancient church that is known for its fortifies facade. The nearby town of La Savina is the island's main port. The town's marina is filled with yachts, and there are many clubs, discos and restaurants nearby.

Caves and a nature reserve in the salt pans
This island is not only about parties by the sea. Ses Salines Formentera Natural Park is a natural reserve that covers part of Es Trucadors peninsula and the wetlands. The area used to be a set of salt pans and is now a large park filled with wading birds posidonia sea grass, which is considered to be one of the longest living plants discovered.

The Xeroni caves are filled with stalactites and stalagmites. The caves are a popular day trip and guided tours are offered around the caves, which are located in the center of the island.

Far de la Mola is an ancient lighthouse located on the south of the island, overlooking several cliffs and coves. From here visitors can enjoy stunning views towards the Mediterranean and Cala Codolar.
