My endless list of where I want to go

If you’re a regular reader of Eye & Pen, then you’ve probably come across my Bucket List at one point or another – in my list and my life dreams and goals, I have the problem of continually adding more and more items to the list than I am able to cross off. Therefore, my list continues to grow and expand, and that’s why its name is referenced as being “never-ending” and with that ever-expanding list, I seem to keep finding new and exciting destinations to see and experiences that I want to have. The problem, as you can surely see, is that I will likely never catch up in reality to all that I dream to accomplish.
I often ponder upon this problem, and various quotes come to mind, like “Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today.” (James Dean), which really connects with how I feel about my life and how I want to live it to the fullest. And then, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” (Walt Disney) – which makes me want to continue striving to see all and experience all that I possibly can. Because it’s not about the destination of finishing out the task, and it’s not about the feeling of pride once every item on the list has been checked off... It’s about the journey and the experience along the way.

Another quote resonates with me for obvious reasons, which is “All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.” (T. E. Lawrence). That quote is spot on for me, as my whole life, I’ve achieved things that I never thought were possible and proved the naysayers wrong – and by my own faith wavering, I am simply joining the ranks of the unbelievers and the naysayers, and I know that I’m stronger than that. My day dreams, imaginations and twilit dreams will never be satisfied, but I know that I can never quit, or else my light of life may flicker out.

And speaking of my dreams, currently I am dreaming of glorious other worldly lands, where the various natural wonders of the earth come together in a brilliant fashion – beautiful, terrible, wild and breathtaking... I’m dreaming of touring the amazing landscapes of Iceland and Scotland’s Highlands. Both destinations have been high on my bucket list for a VERY long time, and have been a constant reminder every time I begin to dream. Other similar thoughts occur to me from time to time as well, like how there are tons of other lands and cultures that I want to experience, that I know so little about – and I struggle with myself, thinking that I may never have enough time to see it all. Places India and Argentina, and loads of other places that I would love to visit soon taunt and tease me, tempting me to spend the last of my savings and to hop on a plane. Sometimes, I just have the urge to bail out on all commitments and fly out to China with Emirates, or something.

While I realize this article is pretty random, and a bit whimsical at best, I feel better simply getting these feelings down, and out there – as I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way. Perhaps at the very least, I hope that the above quotes speak to you in a similar way as well!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Brandon. The T.E. Lawrence quote has been a huge influence in my life, fueling me to chuck a career as a chemist, go back to school, and start my own travel agency. I just found your blog recently, but I am already a faithful follower. Hopefully I'll see you on the road someday!

Kate,

Brilliant! That's a good one. I have to be honest, I hadn't read it previous to writing this post. I wish you luck! And that would be lovely :) Thank you for reading, seriously!

Thank you so much! The photo turned out exactly how I was hoping it would. I often look back at this photo due to the beauty that was captured through film. I am really glad that you like it as well.
