Since I have already visited numerous places all over the world, I have all these different travel experiences to compare. Lately, I came to the conclusion that my top experiences often are experiences with a ‘local’ touch. Locals can show you the beauty of their country like no other touristic travel agency will ever realize.
Especially because I am planning to visit Asia this autumn, I was very excited when I bumped into the platform Withlocals, which connects local people directly to travelers through food and experiences. This platform definitely provides the opportunity to have less-Westernized experiences. It is for example possible to book a 5 day ‘live like a local’ tour in Nepal, where we can explore the Nepalese culture very close. Also many short experiences are offered on the website like having a home dinner with a Malaysian family.

As well as having a real local experience, we will also benefit the local communities by creating more job opportunities for the local population. The locals can decide what they like to offer themselves and set their own prices. For them it is a great way to show others their favorite places, teaching their favorite activity or showing off their cooking skills, and even earn some extra money by doing this.
All in all, a great discovery which I will definitely keep in mind when traveling to Asia!
