Quick funding options for your trip

When it comes to traveling, a lot of people automatically count the possibility out because money is the issue. While there’s no perfect way to fund an expedition, other than hard work and time (or a healthy inheritance), there are a few quicker options that might be of interest.
A difficult, however obvious one is to commit to the move – that is, if you’re interested in staying abroad for a long time (like I have). You could always sell off everything you own and grab a bag, stuff in some clothes, and then take the next plane out of here. It’s been a year since I sold off every tiny little thing that I owned in a series of garage/house-sales and Craigslist.com listings. It wasn’t easy, but I haven’t looked back since. The feeling of freedom and variety in my quality of life is well worth the parting with my material items.

A not-so-lovely option is to use your credit cards to fund your travels. This of course has its issues, with the typical high interest rates and the fact that you still have to pay back the dough at some point. But if you can get yourself a high limit credit card, with an introductory rate/time period of no interest, then this option might be feasible for you. Either way, it goes without saying, you’re acquiring debt, but if you’re smart about it, this quote may be useful for you: “Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.”

What about a loan? A loan may sound scary at first, but a lot of banks are offering great rates, now that some economies are starting to build a little momentum. Similar to a credit card in a lot of ways, a loan may be one of the better options, as it builds on your credit rating and puts cash into your pocket – plus, the rates are typically lower than most credit cards. So, if you’re responsible with money, unsecured loans can be a good option.

Last, but not least, I’d like to mention the most obvious of all – ASK SOMEBODY. Ask your parents, ask your grandfather, ask a friend, who cares... If you can show them that you’re traveling to increase your knowledge of the world, and that it will expand your boundaries of yourself, then perhaps, maybe, someone will invest in you. Just don’t make them regret it!

Also, there are a few other options that I’m not going to mention, because they require some creative scheming and illegal activity, which I don’t necessarily condone – haha. Either way, it’s definitely possible to afford to travel, find a way, somehow, whatever it takes. Work hard, but no matter what... Travel – it’s the best thing you can do for yourself. It opens your eyes and makes you grow through experience of recognition and surprises – it can stop your heart, then make it speed up double-time, all in the same moment, either way, you will never come back the same person, because you will have truly lived and experienced.

Loans, credit cards and borrowing can never work. You need to have a steady income source, otherwise there will always be a nagging fear

I think the first one is more feasible. It's easy to play minimalist and go travel for a while.

But taking out a loan?! Whoa. No way. You don't want to start an adventure on a bad foot of having to pay it all back with interest.

If you need to take a loan out to travel, you're doing it wrong.

I agree. But if all you want to do is have a break from your normal working life, for a quick trip, and need to raise money quickly (as the title suggests), then these are some options. I, however, prefer to live a life on the road, not just to have a simple trip.

To be honest, if it is for travelling, I don't mind paying later with interests, haha, just would have to make sure to make the trip as long as possible before coming back to reality

When I went travelling this year, I went to Egypt and around Europe for 3 months. I saved most of the money and I paid for the flights, tours and accommodation with my savings but I still got out a loan and a credit card to fund the rest. Even though it'll take a while to pay back it was totally worth it.

That is awesome that you were able to save that much money. I think that is the best way to go in regards to spending and traveling. It is nice to take out a small loan or credit card for emergencies. You never know what the future holds. :D

Short term loans are sometimes the only option out there as many bank not interested in helping.
