Every man is in need of a quality wallet. And every traveler is in need of a wallet that protects their money and belongings while they’re abroad. For so many years, travelers have been stuck with the hidden wallet packs that either hang from your belt, or from around your neck, but today I’d like to talk about a newer, subtler option that I’ve come to love.

When I first began traveling, I was robbed a few times in a few different countries, each situation as unique as the next, and while it was detrimental at the time, I have since learned a great deal about safe traveling. During my first trip, I carried one of those passport wallets that dangled around my neck, but it was easy to lose, and uncomfortable. Then, I tried the belt version, and found the same to be true. Then, after my dreaded run-ins with criminals, I switched to a new way of thinking, a new way of keeping my money and credentials safe while traveling abroad.

I turned to a rubber little thing called a Swallet. It’s by no means beautiful, but it is effective in keeping my money and IDs safe as it held them tight with a band. Beyond that, it was made of this rubbery material that stuck to the inside of my pants pocket and with that, I traveled nine months around Europe without issue. And then someone created a much higher end alternative.

The fine leather making brothers over at American Bench Craft came up with the Frontier 1 wallet. It is a single piece of leather, folded and secured with metal rivets. There’s no thread stitching or glue, only a simple, yet brilliant design with three areas for cash and cards. Similar to the swallet, the Frontier 1 provides a safe and sticky environment that holds your things tightly inside.

Immediately, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Frontier 1 wallet. It may not have the outer stickiness of the rubber swallet, but the inner pockets still have that feature in mind. But it is a beautiful, finer alternative. American Bench Craft does fine work and I feel they certainly knocked this minimalist design out of the park. Besides the quality of their product line, I particular love and give absolute props that they are environmentally conscious and strive for total sustainability.

I never thought about how secure my wallet was based on how it's shaped. Interesting read. I'll check it out
