The perfect road trip of Malta

Malta is a peaceful island caught geographically in the middle of conflict, unrest and turmoil, with Sicily to it's north and to it’s south, Africa’s Lybia and Tunishia. The island is set alone, surrounded by the beautiful blue waters of the Mediterranean. It boasts plenty of gorgeous views and cozy gold sandy beaches. Even though most of the inhabitants of Malta are quite religious, they find plenty of ways to live a comfortable and exciting life in paradise – as the island is famously loaded with crazy and outrageous nightclubs and throbbing techno dance beats.
While lounging on the beach and taking it easy during the day, before heading out for a wicked fun night sounds just right, the best way to really see what all the island nation has to offer is by car – if I were you, I would hire a car in Malta’s capital city Valletta and take off, winging each move I made. However, for the less adventurous travelers out there, who like to plan things out a bit, I’ve nailed down a few of the best stops for the perfect road trip...

Start out in Valletta
Tour the ancient capital city, by just wandering around on foot – you will find interesting museums, art and of course, architecture everywhere you go. Staying in Valletta a couple of nights is a must, because if you head just a little ways north, you will run into Paceville, home of most of Malta’s hottest clubs and nightlife.

Just South to the Three Cities
Cospicua, Vittoriosa & Senglea are three fortified ‘little cities’ that are quite close to Valletta, where you can easily get yourself lost in the maze of historic streets and wonderful architecture, fortified by the Knights of St. John.

North to St. Paul’s Bay & Popeye’s Village
For a wonderful drive along the coast, head north of Valletta to St. Paul’s Bay region for great water activities and gorgeous scenery. But before you head south or off to one of Malt’s sister islands Gozo or Comino, be sure to visit Popeye’s Village for it’s quirky and brilliant wooden ramshackle huts and buildings, set along the sea – which is something like no other.

South to Dingli Cliffs
A beautiful 30 minute ride south from Popeye’s Village, you will find yourself along the famous Dingli Cliffs. They tower high above the Mediterranean Sea, at heights up to over 980 feet (up to 300 meters) – and the surrounding areas are full of adventurous hikes and climbing opportunities.

Hi Brandon, I'd recommend visiting these places in Malta as well:

1) The smaller islands of Gozo and Comino, which are far less busy and much more rural.
2) The Blue Lagoon on Comino - the most popularly photographed seaside location with crystal blue waters.
3) Mdina - Former capital of Malta, sits on a hilltop and boasts buildings dating back to the late Middle-Ages (in fact most if not all buildings in this little bastion city are historical gems).

Happy to contribute a blog post if you're looking to share more information around Malta with your readers!
