To vape or not to vape

While smoking is a nasty habit, it is literally one of the most difficult habits to kick! Trust me, I know. I have a history of smoking, but am here to tell you that at present I have been smoke free for a long while, and my future is looking smoke free. My history of quitting consists of everything from prescription medication, to attempting to kick the habit cold turkey, and the wonderful attempt of simply cutting back. Have you ever heard the saying “there is more than one way to skin a cat?” While, really don’t love this saying, there isn’t a one size fits all approach to this topic. What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa.
I had many unsuccessful attempts at quitting, and would usually quit for a few days or a few weeks, only to break down and buy a pack that I swore would be the last pack. I found that it wasn’t the smoking alone that made it difficult for me to quit. It had a lot to do with the actions that went along with smoking. For example; when I got in the car, I light up a smoke. When I finished a meal, I would light up a smoke. When I finished a task, my reward would be to puff on a smoke. I got in a routine, and my routines were what I found to miss the most.

I have a lot of family and friends that are slaves to smoking, and I am always recommending trying an e-cig to quit. It is the best thing that I could have done for myself in regards to health. I don’t wake up with that heavy feeling in my chest. The food I eat, I can actually taste, and overall, I simply just feel better. I get a lot of questions about vaping so I thought this would be a great time to cover some of the questions that I receive.

One question I receive on a regular basis is in relation to the benefit. “How is alternative better than smoking?” I’m glad you asked! A cigarette contains over 300 chemicals in which around 70 of them are known to cause cancer. Are you shocked? I was when I first heard that statistic. I was also shocked to learn that if you were to take the contents found in one cigarette and inject them into your body, it would kill you. Electronic cigarettes don’t have that effect on your body. You may be asking “There is nicotine in the juice isn’t there?” Yes, there is however, it isn’t the nicotine that is the issue. Nicotine has the same effect that caffeine has, and while they both can be addictive, it isn’t the nicotine that is the issue. It is the chemicals that are in the cigarette.

The next question I get a lot of is “Where can I vape?” You can pretty much vape anywhere. That’s what makes this tool a unique approach to quitting. They look just like the real thing. You don’t’ have to worry about sticking out like a sore thumb, or only using it in a closed bathroom stall. For example, e-cigarettes from Vype look exactly like real cigarettes. It’s almost shocking when you see them.

The question I get the most is in regards to vaping and travel. “Is this something that I can travel with?” Traveling and using an e-cigarette isn’t something that you should be concerned with. The TSA currently doesn’t have any restrictions on flying with any of the items needed to vape. The only restriction is the size of the bottle that the juice is in, and that is only a concern if you are carrying them on. You can have multiple bottles of juice on you as long as they are 3.4 ounce containers.

I’m not saying that vaping for life is something that should be considered so early in the quitting game. What I am saying is that if you are actively trying to quit or would like to attempt to kick the habit, an e-cigarette is a tool that you can use to assist you. Does it taste like the real thing? No, it doesn’t, but there are so many flavors of juice out there, that you will certainly find one that you like. My favorite is a combination of carmel and hazelnut, yum! If you start vaping throughout the day, you will eventually get to the point that if you were to light up a real cigarette, you will want to go back to the electronic.
