And there’s no better way of guaranteeing you’ll have a night to remember than by leaving your hometown for the bright lights of a city you’ve never experienced before.
With only two months left and plenty still to organise you’d better get started on planning.
To help you narrow down the options, we’ve picked five of our favourite destinations around Europe for celebrating New Year’s Eve.
Berlin
Berlin is one of Europe’s music capitals, offering plenty of club nights and alternative events no matter what month you visit but going completely overboard for New Year’s Eve.
This is the best choice if you’re looking for non-stop night life and the perfect excuse to wear one of those edgy, out-there party dresses you’ve been eyeing up for months.
Edinburgh
Scotland’s capital throws a massive street party to celebrate Hogmanay, with bands playing throughout the evening and open-air ceilidhs giving you a taste of tradition.
It’s chilly at this time of year, though, so you’ll need more than a dram of whisky to warm you up. Remember to pack an appropriate coat and scarf to keep you feeling comfortable all night long.
Vienna
If you want to experience a taste of royal life, with plenty of throwback glamour and luxury, Vienna should be your first stop.
The city’s annual Grand Ball provides the perfect opportunity to waltz around the Hofburg Palace in a full-length ball gown, whilst sipping champagne and rubbing shoulders with the super wealthy.
Reykjavik
Who could resist the chance to welcome the new year watching the magical Northern Lights? There’s a definite possibility of that happening if you choose to spend the occasion in Iceland.
In case mother nature lets you down, Reykjavik’s citizens put on hundreds of their own firework displays. Again, you’ll need to wrap up warm to survive the freezing temperatures.
Prague
Once nicknamed the golden city, Prague is a picturesque medieval town now famed for its Christmas markets – perfect if you’re dreaming of a more traditional festive period.
If watching some fireworks over Charles Bridge and paying less than £1.50 for a pint sounds like your ideal night out, it’s the city for you this New Year’s Eve.
Do you have any other recommendations for European New Year’s Eve destinations you think we should have included on our list? You can always leave a comment and tell us all about your favourite place to celebrate the festivities.
