Top 5 Reasons to Travel Alone Together

There’s a little part of all of us that longs to escape the daily grind, get out, and explore the world alone. Whether it be finally visiting that incredible destination you’ve always dreamed of, or finding yourself (literally) on the other side of the world, solo adventures have an irresistible lure. However for many of us, although the romanticised dream of travelling on your own is enticing, fears of becoming lonely and starved of company whilst on the road often get in the way of taking the plunge.

At the start of another new year, it’s time to shed these doubts and concerns that keep us rooted, and give solo travelling a try. Here are five of the best reasons to travel alone (together) this year.

1. You’ll make friends for life
Cliched it may be, but meeting kindred spirits is almost an inevitability when solo travelling. Firstly, travelling solo makes you more approachable to others, and when you do strike up a conversation, you’ll instantly have common ground. And if you need a little help, there are multiple apps designed to bring solo travellers together:

2. You’ll leave the fear behind
Being apprehensive about jumping on a plane and exploring a whole new country alone is only natural, but overcoming the reservations and concerns is one of the most rewarding parts of solo travel. Knowing that you can look after yourself in situations outside of your comfort zone, and be completely comfortable in your own company will stay with you for a lifetime.

3. You’ll try new things
Travelling solo means that you are completely in control of your own schedule, and have to answer only to yourself. Although this may sound daunting at first, it can also be incredibly freeing - use a solo holiday to indulge a passion on a hobby-focused tour, or just use the freedom to explore things you never knew you were into as and when you find them!

4. You’ll experience the ultimate change of scene
Being an official party of one means your accommodation options are endless and varied. Sites like AirBnB offer numerous places to crash that are rented out by locals who really know the area. Hostels are also a good way to chat with like-minded travellers and swap tales of your experiences.

5. You’ll develop a whole new sense of self
Although travelling alone together is a great way to forge friendships that can last a lifetime, or only in the moment, spending valuable time alone can do wonders for discovering a whole new outlook, as well as a new you. Time to ruminate and reflect is never a bad thing!
