On the grounds of the Hemingway Home in Key West, you will find the house, which is one of the biggest on the island, and a side recreational building with Ernest’s office and writing area on the second floor, along with several unique details to how the Hemingway’s lived, what they liked, as well as remnants of some of the more interesting, and lesser known happenings from their lives in Florida. Perhaps, one of the most intriguing stories that our tour guide shared with us was how the swimming pool came to be installed on the grounds. But I won’t be telling you that story, as it’s best to hear it right from the Hemingway Home tour guides. Another really interesting aspect about touring the Hemingway Home in Key West is that they have an organization in-house that honors one of Ernest’s favorite things, his cats, or his Polydactyl cats (6 or more toes) rather. The grounds are littered with several dozen of these unique felines, who are descendants of his own animals.
The Ernest Hemingway House is set on the greatest private piece of land on the island of Key West, Florida. It once was previously owned by an intriguing fellow, who earned his living in rather interesting ways – which is best to learn by actually visiting the island, as his influence is shared throughout the island’s unique past. The Hemingway’s purchased the home in 1931, and it remained Ernest’s home right up until his divorce with Pauline Pfeiffer in 1940. He and Pauline had added a lot of their own personal touches on the house, throughout their residence, but some of the best and most entertaining stories are only told along the official tour of the house and grounds. I have come to realize that I am really quite fond of touring the homes of authors. I don’t know if it’s just some sort of a creative curiosity that allures me, or if it’s that deep down, I would really love to be an author some day. Even just as a travel writer, seeing Ernest Hemingway’s home, experiencing where he lived, seeing what he saw, and feeling as he may have felt in his personal writing studio (or den, rather – as Hemingway probably would have preferred) is pretty amazing.

I like how you described the Hemingway house. I was there a few weeks ago and I have to say your new camera works great.
