Santorini is known for its sunsets, and for a very good reason, too. What could be more romantic than sitting with your newlywed and watching the golden sun sink over the horizon, turning the sky a fiery auburn (besides, think of the photography opportunities!)?
Wine Delivered To Your Sunbed
Some of the tavernas on the beach front provide free sun beds where you can work on your tan and relax. Order fresh Greek salads and glasses of wine throughout the day, and they will be delivered directly to you. Be waited on hand and foot for a change!
Amazing Mediterranean Food
Recent studies have shown that the Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest in the world. Treat yourself with delicious dishes packed with omega 3s and fresh vegetables, and wash it all down with a glass of locally produced wine. Santorini has some fantastic restaurants that you’ll want to try out before your honeymoon is over – savour the taste of the Hellenic isles.
The History
Although half of the island was destroyed in a volcanic eruption around 3,600 years ago, there still remains a lot of history packed onto this crescent-shaped land. The Akrotiri Excavations are certainly worth a visit, if you like a dose of ancient and prehistoric culture on your travels. In particular, there are beautiful frescos to see, where the artwork has been preserved by volcanic ash.
The Locals
Santorini locals are extremely friendly, and if you’re looking for a no-fuss honeymoon, almost all of them speak fantastic English, due to the massive amount of tourists that visit this island during the summer season. They will make you feel welcome and are extremely helpful.
Photography Opportunities
Santorini will ensure that you have jaw-dropping photography options throughout your honeymoon, to treasure in the future. The stunning Santorini landscape, glorious sunshine, and picturesque architecture makes this Grecian island a haven for photographers.
Activities Aplenty
Hiking and boat trips are exceptionally popular in Santorini. Alternatively, you could spend your day shopping or swimming in the sea. You can find an array of cute, budget shops, beautiful book stores that will charm any bibliophile, but also pocketbook-burning boutique shops too, depending on your budget.
Oh, and some of the Best Wine You’ll Ever Drink
You can’t leave Santorini without visiting one of the wineries. For a couple of euros (or perhaps even for free), you will be given a tour of the vineyards, with wine sampling at the end. And, of course, it would be rude not to buy some wine to take home with you – you can just open the bottle back at home and immediately be transported to the vineyards of Santorini once more!
