8 Reasons to Visit Taiwan

Taiwan is a beautiful island with amazing mountain scenery and pristine beaches that appeal to tourists from all over the world. The cultural influences transformed Taiwan into a wonderful exotic destination in East Asia with many hidden treasures that should be explored. Southeast Asia is a very popular destination for backpackers mostly because of the amazing culture and low prices however Taiwan is another amazing destination that should be added on any tourist’s Asian itinerary. In case you need more reasons to visit this wonderful Asian destination, here are 8 reasons to visit Taiwan:
Taiwanese Temples
The untouched Buddhist and Taoist temples in Taiwan are amazing cultural attractions that tell the story of the oldest city in Taiwan, Tainan, and are amazing representations of the Buddhist and Taoist traditions and knowledge. 53 of these temples are National Historic Sites with Chikanlou being the most magnificent one. 

Unique Culture
Besides the temples that are a great representation of the Taiwan’s culture, the island is also home to the National Palace Museum. The museum shelters a large collection of ancient Chinese art and artifacts. Taiwan provides tourists with numerous tour options that allow them to discover the unique villages and traditions that are centuries old. 

Picturesque Cycling
Taiwan offers amazing bike trails for both leisure and expert cyclists who want to admire the beautiful coastline, the wonderful mountain landscapes, the scenic countryside and the lively cities including Taipei and Kaohsiung.

Great Trekking Trails
Taiwan is an excellent hiking destination with popular trekking trails that are known by hikers from all over the world. The trails in Taiwan are suited for all difficulty levels and they provide amazing views of the forests, national parks and state reserve on the island. 

Geothermal Springs
Another unique feature of Taiwan is represented by the wonderful springs that vary from hot spring to mud or cold springs and that are spread all over the country’s territory. These geothermal springs are well loved tourist destinations in Taiwan and most of them have been transformed into luxurious spas or bathhouses. The most famous geothermal spring is in Beitou, a district in Taiwan situated close to Taipei that is also home to the Bathhouse Museum, a spa that has historic significance since, during World War II, was used by Japanese Kamikaze pilots.  

Unique Butterflies
From December to February, almost 600.000 butterflies migrate for winter in the southern Taiwan. Migration among butterflies is a pretty rare phenomenon; only two species in the world migrate including the Taiwanese Purple Crow that can be seen in the Maolin National Scenic Area during winter.

Sandy Beaches
Once the typhoon season ends, the wonderful Taiwanese beaches become the perfect retreat for both tourists and locals who prefer quiet beaches that are perfect for relaxation and inner peace. Some of the most beautiful beaches in Taiwan are situated in Ken Ting National Park a destination that provides the perfect environment for lazy days with sun and sandy beaches. 

Food And Drinks
Last but not least the cuisine in Taiwan is another great reason to visit the island. There are numerous food stands and street cars where visitors can discover the best flavors of the island’s food but also Michelin-starred restaurants and various cafes where people can indulge in amazing desserts. 
Taiwan is also home to world class bartenders that are renowned on the international mixology scene for their unique and amazing cocktails.
