As deep forest gave way to high desert, the mountains began peaking out beyond the horizon in every direction. With each mile behind me, my heart split, stretched thin between the love I felt in each place I had just left, while being pulled with anticipation as a new love awaits. Travel is a wonderful way to simplify life’s complexities and to find a place of zen within one’s self.

Decades of dreams and desire finally manifested into reality a month ago when I had the amazing opportunity to travel from my home in Ohio out to San Francisco. There, I rented a car and started north along the coast. I spent several days hiking 28.7 miles of trail in Redwoods country, before starting my way north along the Oregon coast. The trees were gargantuans, and the forests were spiritual oasis, where I found peace and connection, and was able to ease the recent stresses of modern life.

After exploring the seaside town of Newport, I started east to Sisters, Oregon. Before the last of the deep forest gave way to the high desert, I stopped at powerful and gorgeous Koosah Falls. Forty minutes east and I found myself in the cute town of Sisters, where the three sister mountains can be seen nearby, along a line of stunning peaks. I wandered around outside the town until I found the perfect spot to watch the sunset fade into nighttime. The colors evolved from blue skies to burning orange, and the golden light of the evening painted everything in beautiful light that made it easy to take such eye catching portraits of the landscape.

The town of Sisters, Oregon is a charming little place with great restaurants, cute shops and it’s situated perfectly within close distance to a lot of cool nature attractions. Within an hour or two drive, you can experience the forest, waterfalls, desert, mountains, rock formations, and lakes like Willamette National Forest, Sahalie & Koosah Falls, Painted Hills, Smith Rock, Mt Hood, Sister mountains, and more. The Painted Hills were powerful and so unique, that red and black rock and the ability to see the layers of time before you was awesome. Smith Rock was a stunning rock formation, providing for excellent hiking. Koosah Falls was empty but for myself, and it felt magical. Mount Hood was a neat mountain segue into orchards, then onto the Columbia gorge, making for great eating and wonderful views.

I found most of these really cool places to be very overlooked by tourists. Sure, there were a few here and there, but most of these areas were visited by a handful of locals but few others, and so it seemed that most of these spots were more so hidden gems. They were peaceful, and stunningly gorgeous. It felt like most people head straight to Portland or the dunes, or coast, and majority are probably spending more time around Crater Lake, but I’ll tell you, they’re missing out!

My stay at Sisters Bed and Breakfast in Sisters, Oregon, was a perfect experience. My hosts, Michelle and Bruce, were very kind, and I enjoyed speaking with them. They have a lovely setup a few blocks from downtown, yet the accommodation felt private and peaceful. I never once woke up due to loud passersby, or traffic. I felt comfortable the entire time, and was sad to leave when my time was up and I had to continue on my adventure. Next time I come around the area, I’m going to stay for 3-4 days, so I can better experience what the area has to offer. But for my quick 2 night stay, I really enjoyed everything I was able to do. It was a blast!

I had the pleasure of staying in Sisters B&B’s Middle Sister Suite, which was furnished with a kind bed, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, TV, video streaming, WIFI, private bathroom, and breakfast was provided for in the fridge, which was a hugely appreciated amenity. What a nice gesture! What’s more is I had my own parking spot near my private ground floor entrance. Every amenity I needed was provided for and some, and I was very happy with my stay, as it created a memory I’ll cherish forever. Visit Sisters Bed and Breakfast when you find yourself in the area, because you won’t be disappointed.
