A Family Tent for Six of Your Favorite People: featuring Wenzel’s Portico 6

Personally, I feel a deep inner peace when I’m no longer subject to the hustle and bustle of city life, and when I’m so far out in the natural wilderness that I no longer hear humans or machines, and am totally surrounded by the wild majestic forest. When all I hear and see is the life that calls the woods home, then I am a different person. I think different, feel different, and want different things. I am no longer stressing about finances or trivial problems that I won’t even remember a year from now. Then, add in my favorite people in the whole world, and I might as well die then, because there’d be nowhere else that I’d die happier.

My family and friends like to sit around the campfire and tell stories, joke and play games, because it’s what brings us closer together, and it’s what passes the time easily and without a second thought or a single tension. We roam and explore aimlessly, simply experiencing what makes the natural world so intoxicating, then when night falls, we roast dogs over the fire and talk of times past. When the night is winding down, the sun setting and the moon and stars appearing, there is no better way to connect with loved ones, and no better way to relax and take in the wonder of our natural world than to join around the fire and to share.

Sometimes we create a tent city in the forest when we campout, but that all depends on how many people join us out in the forest, because if we have six or less, we tend to bunk together in a tent like the Wenzel Portico 6. The Portico 6 is nice because it’s a dynamic and large take on the classic dome tent, which offers enough space to sleep six, while offering a peak height of over 6-feet, which makes it much easier to move around and adjust with so many bodies in one place.

The Wenzel Portico 6 tent provides strong weather coverage with its full coverage rain fly and built-in awning that offers additional shade for hot sunny days. This tent has a built-in gear loft, convenience pockets and quick access storage pocket that make it a versatile and easy going camping experience, especially if you have it packed with a full house. If you are experiencing a particular swelteringly hot day, you can remove the rain fly to let fresh hair move through the mesh roof, which I found to be a lifesaver considering how humid Ohio summer days tend to be.

The Portico 6 has a floor size area of 10 feet by 9 feet or 90 ft2, with a peak height of 74 inches. The tent closes down into a nice bag, measuring at 25.5”x9”x9” and weighs a little over 18 pounds. Other features include shock corded fiberglass frame with fast feet for easy setup, pre-attached guy ropes for added stability, and even has an E-port for electrical cord access. All in all, I found the Portico 6 to be a fine tent that works well for six people, and can feel like a large luxury tent with as little as four. Wenzel builds fine and affordable tents that are packed with special features and have been ergonomically thought through to provide a comfortable and easy going experience, while only adding to the magic of nature rather than becoming a burden as some tents tend to become.
