A Woman’s Perspective: Reviewing the Leyden Camera Bag by Aide De Camp

Most bags and gear for photographers are unisex, but the fine folks over at Aide De Camp specialize in marrying the perfect camera bag with the perfect purse. I don’t know about you, but when I first began shooting photography outdoors, I couldn’t find a suitable camera bag that fit all my needs. If I’m going to go from location to location and shoot senior photos or landscape shots, I’m not carrying my purse, AND my camera bag, because it’s simply too much weight, and typically I find myself struggling to manage both bags with the addition of a camera strapped around my neck.

I searched and searched until my fiancé, Brandon, found Aide De Camp, because prior to his discovery, I had toured camera shops, big box retailers, and scoured the internet. I found most camera bags to be bulky, or heavy, or totally uninspiring. I wanted something different; something that spoke to me; a design that could improve my work, while also improving my ability to travel comfortably, with all my gear and my personal affects, without becoming a burden.

The Leyden Camera bag is indeed the perfect bag for me, because it’s classy and very fashionable with its shiny, water resistent nylon exterior, paired with genuine cow leather handles and trim, and of course, the fine 14-karat champagne gold plated hardware. Why is the look so important to me? Because it allows me the ability to carry my camera whenever I need to dress up, or whenever I wish to dress down and casual. Not only does the Leyden look like a beautiful purse, but it’s designed to compartmentalize all of my camera gear, bodies, lenses, cards and hard drives, while also giving me space for makeup, meds, and my wallet, among other things.

I found the ability to switch between a handbag and a shoulder bag to be ingenious, because it means I can throw the bag over my shoulder, unzip the top, and suddenly I’m ready to shoot within seconds. I’m no longer missing the quick images that used to allude me, because of how accessible this bag is, but even more, I’m most impressed with how high end it feels, yet how affordable it is. There are pockets on the outside that give me enough space for most of my own items, and then there’s a lot of height above the interior padded gear tray for clothes and larger gear. But what’s more is that the padded tray inside is removable, and can convert the bag into a full-time purse if need be. The Leyden camera bag by Aide De Camp has changed how I wander and take photographs, and so far my work has improved.
