I just returned from a 3 day stint in the region of Flanders in Belgium, and I must say it's a wonderful place – one of my favorites! I will always remember the never-ending flow of the beer, the sweet smell of the waffles and the gluttony I experienced from the delicious chocolates. But besides the wonderful treats and drinks, Belgium is full of intriguing history, full of ancient castles, villages and monasteries – and even though it's filled with plenty to do, see and eat, the people make the place. As you can tell by the video above, the people of Flanders have a fun sense of humour... Which brings me to one of their ultimate loves, which is cycling. No matter where you go in Belgium (and even the Netherlands), you see people riding bicycles everywhere, locals and tourists alike. Much of the beautiful countryside is paved with safe paths, and are rarely empty – for such is the love of the people of Flanders and their cycling. They hold an annual event called the Retro Ronde, where the riders wear costumes and have the time of their lives – saying that "moustaches are optional."
