A day trip from Anchorage led me to the Alaska Riverview Lodge in Kasilof, Alaska. After our brilliant trip to Seward and boat trip through the Kenai Fjorda National Park and Resurrection Bay, we drove across the peninsula to stay the night at the lodge. The drive over was about two hours from Seward and it was full of beautiful cliffs and forests, and the unfortunate remnants of the Swan Lake fire, which definitely had us feeling sorrowful for the loss of life.

It was a long time coming. For ages, I dreamt of going to Alaska. There was something about the allure of the “Last Frontier,” the wildness, the beauty, the unspoiled natural splendor. Yet, the winters sounded rough, and the distance was always too great to drive to. This year, 2023, the stars aligned and I had the opportunity to visit, touring from Anchorage to Kenai Peninsula, then north to Denali, east to Tok, south to Wrangell-St. Elias range, down to Valdez, then back to Anchorage. What a wondrous trip, it was!
Oh, boy! Let me tell you something… I had the adventure of a lifetime last week in Alaska. Before heading northwest by way of Alaskan Airlines, I envisioned Alaska would be a magical place, but I had no idea it was as special, as wild, as giant, as mesmerizing, and as sacred as it was. I spent ten days venturing around the state with my father-in-law Ken, and he is a wild man at heart who spends lots of time in nature and out west, and it was better than either of us had imagined it to be.
