Awesome Experience Among the Redwoods in Crescent City, CA

Of all the places I’ve been and beautiful scenes I’ve witnessed, the California Redwood parks are among the finest of all, because not only are ancient and mind boggling huge, towering upwards of 300-350 feet, but they’re magical as well. When you hike through the many redwood parks (like Humboldt, Montgomery, Del Norte, Prairie Creek, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and the Redwoods National Park), eventually you get to a place that feels different, and speaks to you.
In that moment, it’s best to pause, breathe deep and simply watch, and meditate. Don’t worry about how much time is passing, don’t think about anything whatsoever. Do open your mind and quiet your thoughts and let the place wash its spirit over you. My favorite place was Montgomery Woods State Natural Reserve in Mendocino County and Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park near Crescent City, because both places spoke to me and you can be sure I listened.

It’s easy to do a hike in nature and let the calm listening pass you by, because you’re after the destination, be it an out and back trail or back to your vehicle. What I love finding is a quiet place with much age and splendor, as untouched as you can find, with no sound of humans or cars, or planes. Then I just sit and breathe, I listen and I calm my mind until I’ve opened myself up to the world alive around me. Sometimes, you’re gifted with a thought, idea or desire, or if you’re lucky, an answer. It might be to something that’s been plaguing you, or it might simply be the universe looking in your direction, appreciating your appreciation for the natural world. In Montgomery Woods, I found a quiet, yet powerful place to connect with nature. In Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, I was gifted with a little magic and a whole lot of beauty. The sun streamed through the gargantuan trees, painting the forest in golden light that made every photo come alive.

My recent trip to California came in late May/early June 2023, and I flew into San Francisco, acquired a rental car and made my way up the coast to Arcata then Crescent City, before continuing on along the Oregon coast. It was a bucket list trip as you can imagine. The goal was to connect with these ancient forests and to take some wonderful photos of the natural splendor. In Crescent City, I stayed seaside with Scopa Properties at their lovely SeaView House, in the Pebble Suite.

The SeaView House offers privacy, beach access, and stunning ocean views. The entire house offers 3 king bedrooms, 3 bathrooms with 2 tubs and 1 walk in shower, 2 lounge areas and a large living room, kitchen with dining area, and laundry facilities, as well as a front deck with perfect lounging opportunities with ocean views.

I found my SeaView suite to be clean, comfortable, and in an excellent position to support my trip as the perfect regional jumping off point. Not only could I walk down to the beach within mere minutes, but I drove to Jedediah Smith Redwoods park in only ten minutes! The decor was fun and put together with class and an artistic eye. I loved all the yellow and the old sailor on the wall. It’s truly a great setup with a beautiful view of the Pacific. The bed is huge and very comfortable, and the entire suite felt like a nice apartment and home away from home. It was the perfect spot to stay for the privacy, location to the ocean and of course, the magical redwoods.
