I had the pleasure of staying for two nights in the Birch cabin, which had a nice view of the river with a mountain behind behind it, and a flying osprey friend who flew back and forth along the river, occasionally diving for fish. The Birch cabin has a queen bed, a bathroom, a wood burner, and a perfect porch for lounging, relaxing and simply enjoying the simple art of being alive in a beautiful place. Maynard’s provided firewood which was hugely appreciated for when the nights got a little cool, which helped to set the mood our trip all the more. Our stay was relaxing, comfy, romantic, and just what Leah and I needed for our honeymoon.
Maynard’s offers what is called the American Plan, which is awesome, because it includes three meals a day (breakfast, a packed lunch and a fine dinner), with housekeeping everyday. That plan really cuts the cost of a trip, because at the moment of writing this, it’s only $90 a night, per person, no matter what size cabin. Otherwise, it’s $50 per person, without meals. Leah and I enjoyed the roast pork loin, which was dynamite, and then the next night we had baked and breaded scallops, which were to die for. Seriously, the food is so good! Maynard’s in Maine may not fit into the preset 5-star mold of amenities, but I can say truthfully that Leah and I had a 5-star experience at Maynard’s. We loved it so much so that we’re already talking about returning in the future.
