The sun streams in through a small opening in your tent. The warmth heats your face and beads of sweat swell before working their way from your forehead to your pillow. Their cool path nudging you awake. You yawn and stretch, and as consciousness floods your sleeping brain, you hear a rustling and then a distinctive snort followed by a low, gargling growl. Your eyes pop open with a flash, and with another snarl, you realize you’re not alone.

Traveling the world is among the finest of investments one can make into the quality of their lives. Because not only does traveling to new regions of the world open your mind, but it allows you to see how others live, what they think, how they think, what they believe in, and where they’ve been and are going. But beyond the external experience, travel can take you places within yourself you never knew existed, including but not limited to simply how you think.
Speaking from personal experience, there’s nothing that ruins the trip of a lifetime quicker than that being robbed. I’ve been pickpocketed in Scotland, had my window broken and things stolen from me in the USA, and I had my bank account raided, and I’ll never forget having my rental car smashed and grabbed in Puerto Rico. While my years of traveling through 26 countries has taught me that most people have good in their hearts, these moments keep me levelheaded and aware, always.
Winter is a time where most people stay indoors, avoid the cold weather, the snow, and simply hibernate the season away, but for me, it’s a mixture of extremes. I do tend to hibernate for the holidays, spending time with family, friends and loved ones, yet I also try to always plan a trip that takes me out into the winter wilderness. No, it’s not because I’m mad, crazed or delusional, but mainly because I find it extremely peaceful.
Stay healthy on the open road
Nothing says freedom, summer or extended vacation like a trip along the open road, whether that’s at home or travelling around your favourite continent. The classic road trip is a staple of American culture; grabbing a few friends and hitting the dusty roads in a beaten up old car is probably the epitome of it! These days “road trips” can include backpacking around Southeast Asia, or train-hopping around Europe, but whatever the method of transportation, extended trips like these are truly life-enriching. If you’re looking to enjoy your next road trip to the max, ensure that you make good health a priority by following these tips. Teas are among the most delicious (as far as I’m concerned) and healthy botanicals in the world that can be ingested after steeping the herbs in hot water. Most teas have a myriad of health benefits*, ranging from being high in antioxidants to promoting healthy immune function, as well as aiding in stress relief, sleep consistency, bowel regularity, weight loss, among countless others. So when one wonders how this can be so, one must consider the physical connection we humans have to the rest of the living world. Bluntly, all things are connected, from plants to animals to humans, which is why we can drink the essence of a flower or herb and gain something in return.
