CBD for Life: a New Understanding Leads to a New Way of Healing

For decades, anything to do with cannabis, or marijuana, had been outlawed, looked down on, and thought to be criminal by many, even the very mention of the plant was shunned. Thankfully, since the invention of the internet, saner heads have prevailed, clearing up the truth and laying waste to the propaganda and smear campaigns that have misinformed millions across the globe. And perhaps no country has been affected more so than the minds of the USA. Where it was once thought that cannabis was a harmful drug, reported to cause brain damage, bad decisions and other obscure defects, it’s now becoming common knowledge that the plant is indeed useful for a myriad of medicinal applications.*

With the legalization of cannabis we’ve seen a huge upswing in growing approaches and extraction techniques, which has caused an evolution of what we know about the plant and what we can do with it. If you’re of age and in the right location, you can of course smoke and use marijuana, where legal, but there are new and fascinating alternatives going mainstream all of the time. The latest and perhaps biggest discovery as of late has been the healing power of the CBD compound found in all cannabis. There’s THC, which is the psychoactive molecule produced by the female flowers of the plant, and there’s CBD, among a range of lesser-known cannabinoids that we still have much to learn about.

CBD is the non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in hemp, the male non-flowering part of the plant, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea. For me, personally, I learned about CBD some years back when doing research into alternative medicine, but it wasn’t until I moved to Colorado that I had the chance to see what CBD would do for me. At the time, cannabis had been legalized for a year or two, and so the whole thing was still new and shiny, and those of whom were more skeptical than others were still hoping for the whole initiative to fail. But it didn’t. The experiment paid off for Colorado, assisting with massive tax funding for schools and infrastructure, while also cutting drug arrests and DUIs. With the legalization came the chance to research and to forge new ways of working with the plant, and with the new extraction processes beginning to take shape came the ability to use CBD in a wide range of products. From tinctures to salves, and CBD heavy strains that can be smoked or vaped like the flowers, to all sorts of healing applications like that of CBD For Life’s line of beauty and health products, an amazing evolution is taking place in alternative medicine. No longer are you forced to take an obscure prescription drug for an ailment or illness, one that likely has a longer list of side effects than cures, because CBD can offer you a natural approach that is therapeutic rather than debilitating.

CBD For Life specializes in bridging the gap between everyday health and beauty products and the healing effects of CBD. I recently reached out to them in hopes of doing this feature, so that I could talk about my experiences of actually using the products, which are now legal in all 50 states (CBD, not THC), and they sent me their shampoo, conditioner, face & body cleanser, foot cream, hand & body massage lotion, face cream, eye serum, pain relief spray, lip balm and their pain relief rubs. And I’ve got to say that I was blown away by the results, because it’s not just that they smell good or feel good, but it’s how powerful they are that took me by surprise. In Colorado, I tried the tinctures and the 50:50 balanced topicals, and they were nice, but they don’t compare to these.

By introducing CBD into my everyday routine, I’ve found that my overall mood has increased, I’m more relaxed, easier going, and am getting stressed less when in the moment. My favorite is the foot cream, because when using it with a foot massage, it easily breaks apart the knotted muscles and soothes the aches and pains, especially the worst of them that come after a long day of being on my feet. I found the lavender rub to be absolutely intoxicating, perfect for before bed relaxation and easing of pained muscles. The lemongrass rub has a sort of awakening sensation which I liked a lot, especially for morning aches. The original rub has camphor, peppermint and menthol, and while it stings the eyes to be near it, it’s the most powerful of the bunch, affectively having an icy-hot sort of sensation that works deep into the muscles, providing optimum relief. The massage lotion is nice and creamy, providing a soothing feeling with a detoxifying effect that makes my skin soft.

My fiancé enjoyed testing the lip balm, face wash and face cream, commenting that the wash left her feeling crisp and her skin renewed, while the cream brilliantly hydrated her skin, while leaving her face soft, clear and glowing. The eye serum was perhaps the most unique that I’ve seen, because it is a non-greasy liquid that assists with cleaning up age lines, dark circles and puffiness, which she remarked as being a life saver for sleepless nights. As we’re gearing up for our wedding, our hair (and my beard) is among our greatest concerns, and we loved the CBD shampoo and conditioner, because it blends high quality CBD, essential oils and natural botanicals together, which cleanse and restore moisture to dry hair, while strengthening and softening, and making the color shine beautifully. It only took a week for us to notice the affects.

The line of health products by CBD For Life were also interesting, because they offered pain relief in several forms that I wasn’t sure how to gauge how powerful they were. The menthol pain relief spray was the most convenient approach to muscle pains, especially on days when I was in a hurry. A few quick sprays that absorb quickly, and I notice a sense of ease that I hadn’t had before, but I did notice that if it was particularly bad I would have to apply the spray often. For a sense of general wellbeing and for a sort of de-stressing effect, I would use the CBD pure extract oral spray to cure my anxiety in stressful moments, and to help with the aches and pains that come with a getting older, and I found great relief from it. All in all, I really liked all of CBD For Life’s beauty and health products, finding the most relief from the original rub, the foot cream and the oral spray, but with so many high quality botanicals it’s difficult to choose a favorite. For each unique concern, CBD For Life had a soothing and powerful answer.
