For years… no decades, pretty much everything to do with cannabis / marijuana had been outlawed, looked down on, and thought to be criminal by majority. Even the very mention of the plant was shunned by many. Thankfully, since the debut of the internet, saner heads have prevailed, clearing up the misinformation and laying out the truth for all to see, ultimately ending majority of the propaganda and smear campaigns that have misinformed millions across the globe. And perhaps no country has been more effected than the people of the United States. Where it was once thought that cannabis was among the most harmful of drugs, reported to cause brain damage, life ending or altering decisions, among other obscure defects, it’s now becoming common knowledge that the cannabis plant is indeed useful for a range of medicinal applications*.

With the legalization of cannabis we’ve seen a huge upswing in growing approaches and extraction techniques, which has caused an evolution of what we know about the plant and what we can do with it. If you’re of age and in the right location, you can of course smoke and use the marijuana, where legal, but there are new and fascinating alternatives going mainstream all of the time. The latest and perhaps most important discovery as of late has been the healing power of the CBD cannabinoid found in the male plant. So, to be clear… There’s THC, which is the psychoactive molecule produced by the female flowers of the plant, and there’s CBD, among a range of lesser-known cannabinoids that we still have much to learn about.

CBD is the non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in hemp, the male non-flowering part of the plant, which has been found to have inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, as well as sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not get you ‘high,’ but it will relax you, soothe pain, assist with the regulation of sleep patterns, control certain cancers, stimulates bone growth, and stops the growth of bacteria, as well as it suppresses muscle spasms and convulsions, slows inflammation, reduces blood sugar levels, reduces the risk of artery obstructions, decreases pressure in the blood vessel walls, helps control epileptic seizures, reduces risk of nerve damage, and eases nausea.

I recently teamed up with R.I.S. Natural Healing in Canada, and they sent over their CBD oil, along with a couple of salves and lip balms that are infused with the non-psychoactive CBD, among other natural and healing oils and essential oils. The CBD Oil can be ingested directly, infused in salves or tinctures, or can be used in edibles. Depending how you use CBD, you can receive many of the previously mentioned benefits. When using a salve, you simply rub the buttery mixture onto sore muscles and affected areas so that the healthy oils soak into the skin, and so that the CBD can get to work on what ails you. But when you ingest the oil, by placing several drops beneath the tongue, then you are able to receive a more well-balanced effect, that can assist with aches and pains, as well as a myriad of internal uses. Many people use CBD oil to treat much more serious things like seizures. But I like to take a few drops when I am feeling anxious or stressed as I’ve found that it helps me stay calm and collected.

For the past month, I worked with R.I.S. Natural Healing’s CBD oil, Eucalyptus Rub On Salve, and their Peppermint Lip Therapy, which I found to be a fun and effective way to keeping my mood stabilized, and my stress levels balanced, while also easing the aches and pains that come with the everyday grind. The salve is wonderful, calming, and smells great; I noticed how powerful it was immediately upon working in into my sore muscles in my neck and back. They even have a treatment for psoriasis and eczema! The lip balms, both natural (unscented) and peppermint, are one of the new and exciting ways to incorporate the healing effects of CBD; I notice the effect of CBD in lip balm most on seriously chapped lips, because they heal much faster than traditional balms on the market. All in all, I found R.I.S. Natural Healing’s CBD line to be made very well, with high quality ingredients, but what’s more is the effect they have on improving my everyday quality of life. Big fan!
