The world is natural medicines, or alternative medicines as some dub it, has been on fire as of late, especially in my home state of Ohio. CBD or Cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive compound found in the Cannabis sativa plant (also known as hemp, marijuana, ganja, and the list goes on and on) has been legalized nationwide, and was put in a sort of grey area in Ohio up until about two weeks ago when the governor finally signed it into legal decriminalized status. CBD is a natural medicine that has a lot of people excited, but let me explain why…

CBD does not offer a high like its sibling THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, which is the chemical found in female cannabis flowers. So CBD is finding a major niche in the natural healing department, because of its wide ranging medicinal benefits with few side effects, if any at all. CBD is proving to be a very gentle and very useful part of the plant, because it has so many medicinal applications. Where how many pharmaceuticals tend to have more side effects and negative reactions than their originally intended benefit, natural plant-based medicines are bringing us back to basics, before all of the science-base experimental medicines took a stranglehold over the world of medicine.

CBD is being studied for its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, and has shown to be promising for its sedating, hypnotic, anti-epileptic and anti-dystonic effects, among other healing attributes. CBD does not ‘get you high,’ as they say, but it will relax you, soothe pain, help regulate sleep patterns, can fight certain cancers, as well as stimulate bone growth, stop the growth of bacteria, suppress muscle spasms and convulsions, slow inflammation, reduce blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of artery obstructions, decrease pressure in the blood vessel walls, and help control epileptic seizures, reducing risk of nerve damage and some say it can even ease nausea.

I recently reached out to Joy Organics, one of the largest CBD brands, and asked to test their 1500mg Premium Hemp Tincture, which offers phytocannabinoid-rich hemp extract in organic olive oil. Each drop has 2.5mg of CBD and the suggested dosage is 1 dropper, which contains 50mg of CBD. 50mg a day is actually quite a bit, so I started out at 25mg and worked my way up from there, especially on days where I wasn’t feeling very good.

Previously, hemp had been stripped from our diets and our bodies, and from the natural world when they eradicated the feral hemp plants post-prohibition. Since doing so, cannabinoids no longer entered out body as they had done for thousands of years prior throughout human evolution. Where they were once found in cow pastures, happy in their nutrient-rich environments, cannabis plants entered our world by way of being eaten by cows and the animals we ate. So as we understand it now, many diseases and illnesses have came about since the total eradication of hemp in our diets, leading to the why where CBD is showing to be such a ‘miracle drug.’

I tested Joy Organics’ tincture for a month and found that it greatly helped me manage my chronic pain in my back and due to carpal tunnel, and I found it boosted my mood, while also helping me ease my anxiety. It also assisted me greatly as a sleep aid, helping me calm my reeling mind before bed, and when I would wake up in the middle of the night, a quick dose of CBD under my tongue and I wouldn’t remember falling back asleep. All in all, I found it to be a very helpful dietary supplement for helping me feel my best. If you would like to learn more about Joy Organics, click here.
