With the World Cup kicking off in Brazil this June, the samba nation is set to become the world stage for football fanatics everywhere. In 2016, it will also become the hosts of the Olympics, catapulting the South American country into global recognition.
Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or not, the buzz that will spill from the football stands, to the beach sands and out into the streets this summer will be truly intoxicating and is well worth discovering first hand. Brazil is not just famous for its passion for sports, but for its rich culture, party spirit and tropical surroundings as well.
One thing that should fall at the top of your to-do list is to gaze upon the iconic statue, Chris the Redeemer. Towering over the vibrant city of Rio, this 120ft Jesus statue claimed the title as one of the Seven New Wonders of the World back in 2007. Perched on top of the Corcovado Mountain, the statue mirrors the attitudes of Brazilian people, welcoming tourists with open arms.
Of course, there’s nothing quite like taking the weight off your feet with a lounge on one of the capital’s unspoilt beaches. Rio is synonymous with stunning sand and seas, and Copacabana is a hub of sultry relaxation and electrifying events, with everything from The Rolling Stones, the BSOP and even Pope Francis taking to the sands.

The backdrop of this carnival country sees some deep and fascinating culture. Sao Paulo is one spot in particular that boasts breath-taking architecture, with the gothic Metropolitan Se Cathedral, the grand Museu Paulista do Ipiranga and the craftsmanship of the Bandeirantes monument all beautifully marking its landscape.
Art is also in abundance here. With the largest collection of Western art in Latin America, the Museu de Arte gives visitors the chance to marvel on the diverse work of greats, such as El Greco, Goya and Picasso. For a more local taste, a selection of 19th century Brazilian artists can be appreciated in the neoclassic settings of the Pinacoteca do Estado.
With delectable flavours bursting from the country’s food markets and eateries, and enthralling music pulsing from the streets, Brazil has so much to offer outside of the sport stadiums. It’s only set to get better over the coming years, with crowds descending for the landmark events and coming away with an unforgettable experience.
