The city of Banjul is less visited than the beachside resorts but that doesn’t mean it should be avoided. One of the reasons for visiting The Gambia is to enjoy the lifestyle and immerse yourself in it, and Banjul would be a perfect spot to do just that. Authentic and culturally rich, the city has an abundance of corners to explore, including the vibrant harbour that continues to be a lucrative port. Wander the market stalls keeping an eye out for a bargain, or stop to sample some of the local cuisine, before checking out the National Museum where you can delve a little deeper into the local history.
Take the time to enjoy the local surroundings, too – there’s a wealth of natural beauty waiting to be explored, including the Tanbi Wetlands and the Makasutu Culture Forest, which are idyllic spots for anyone wishing to get back to nature.
Enjoy a holiday with a difference this year and step out of your comfort zone to appreciate a country that is often overlooked. You’ll be amazed at its beauty, energy and lust for life!
