Fly fishing is almost an obsession for its devotees all around the world. It is believed to be the most challenging type of fishing, requiring skill, patience and perseverance. It also allows you to travel to some of the most beautiful and isolated spots in the world, as much for the destination as the fish.

The first references to fly fishing in Europe dates back to the 15th and 16th centuries, in the accounts of the English writers living in those times. The sport itself predates these literary accounts by at least 200 years. Since the beginning of the 20th century, fly fishing has been growing in popularity, and has gone through much advancement.
Fly fishing is the ideal activity for anyone who wants to spend some quality time outdoors. It is the perfect reason to take a break from work and relax. There are many luxury lodges in the world where fly fishing lovers can go to fish – and relax.

Toon Ken Lodge, Argentina
Toon Ken Lodge is located in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The lodge was built with the comfort and needs of anglers in mind. It has a lovely Beachwood fit-out and a sitting room with an impressive stone fireplace. Guests at the lodge do a lot of fly fishing, as the resort is situated near the Rio Grande River, which is full of sea-run brown trout. Guests at the resort are conveniently just a brief walk or 4WD ride away from the nearby river. Simple but tasty meals are served here, complementing the clean, comfortable and laid-back atmosphere.

Huka Lodge, New Zealand
Huka Lodge is considered one of the best retreats in the world. It is located in the central North Island of New Zealand. The lodge is comprised of suites that are spread across lush gardens. It has hot pools where guests can relax after their day out fishing. Surrounded by 17 acres of countryside on the banks of the Waikato River, the lodge is also close to the famed Lake Taupo, where you can find the best rainbow and brown trout fishing in New Zealand. Both the Waikato River and Lake Taupo provide excellent fishing adventures.

If you want, you can venture further afield into the waters of the surrounding landscapes, where guests have the opportunity to cast-off deep in the back-country. Languorous days could be spent at the Wai O Tapu reserve, known for its geothermic activity. The Huka Falls is also just beyond the lodge grounds and well worth the visit. If you are flying to New Zealand with Air New Zealand you can get travel insurance along with your ticket. If you are flying with another airline you can still get a great deal on travel insurance at https://insurance.airnewzealand.co.nz/.

King Pacific Lodge, Canada
King Pacific Lodge is located at Milbanke Sound, a remote and breathtaking corner of British Columbia. It is hidden away in a private protected bay on Princess Royal Island, with the Alaskan border only 90kms away. A family operated business, it strives to exceed guest expectations. The lodge overlooks the startlingly clear sea. It has 17 well-appointed luxury rooms, all of which have stunning views over either the ocean or the forest.

Guests arrive at the elegant timber lodge by seaplane, which takes off from Prince Rupert, 56 miles north. Then, guests can walk to the waterfront to catch halibut and seasonal salmon. Helicopter trips can be scheduled for those who want to venture to more isolated fishing locations. Whale-watching, kayaking trips, hiking, and guided bear viewings are available for guests who wish to experience something other than fishing.

Delphi Lodge, Ireland
The Delphi Lodge is where the Marquis of Sligo lived for many years, the lodge itself dating back to the 1830s. The County Galway wilds offer a glorious setting for fly fishing expeditions. Delphi is well placed to offer the best range of fly fishing spots through West Ireland. The rivers and lakes are filled with salmon. There’s controlled fishing during the eight month long fishing season, which lasts from February through September.

Fishing is limited to eight to twelve fishermen at a time, helping to control overcrowding in busy times. The lodge has 12 guestrooms and has a welcoming feeling with its roaring fires. Guests sit together in the dignified dining room for communal candlelit dinners with carefully curated wine selections. On selected dates, guests who wish to learn the art of casting can take part in the lodge’s fly fishing school.

Lower Varzuga Camp, Russia
Varzuga is one of the top Atlantic salmon-rich rivers. The Lower Varzuga Camp consists of simple yet pleasant log cabins. Guests arrive at the camp by private helicopter from Murmansk Airport. Due to the geographic location, there is sunlight night and day in summer, so you can go fishing under the sun at 1am if you wish.
