For whatever the reason, travel can be everything or nothing, depending how you look at it and what your goals are. Even if it’s as simple as wanting to hop from one gambling destination to the next, these experiences will give you a variety of layers that staying at home simply can not, and they will stay with you for years to come as precious memories, for which one day you may feel a flurry of nostalgia for. Those are the moments that make life worth living, worth waking for, and worth remembering. When you’re on your deathbed, will you remember the 30 years you worked in that office, or will you remember that one time you saw a wild wolf take down a young or elder elk in Wyoming’s Yellowstone National Park?
For me, it’ll be the moments of exploration and experiences with new cultures that will stick with me, like the time I came around a turn in Glacier National Park in Montana to see a male grizzly standing on two feet in the middle of the road, or when I had a wooly goat jump out at me in Connemara, Ireland, or when I was wandering alone around Iceland in the winter when the weather would let me. Those are my most iconic moments. Focused travel is all about finding what will stick with you the most, be it wildlife, cultures, social connections, historical places, festivals, gambling hot spots, or something else. So next time you plan your next trip, focus on what will give you a thrill rather than where you can be waited on by room service.
