I’ve always had visions of me living in a cabin deep in the woods, where I would live out my days writing and living among the natural world. I, of course, had a wild, burly beard and probably a bit of a strange wild look in my eye, but hey, as far as I’m concerned a wild look in nature is far better than a broken one in the modern world. I’ve tried and tried at growing a full beard, one that I could be proud of, but the truth is that I’ve been among the many of men who struggled to get it all put together. For the longest time, in my early twenties, I would have a scattered patchy bit of growth that resembled something like a vagrant pirate, but now, being in my early thirties, I’ve had enough time to invest into inspiring enough beard growth to make something of it. Though, I do still have a patch on my cheek that is noticeably thinner, and beyond overall heath, I need that patch to fill in.
So, I reworked my approach, reading some helpful resources online about optimal beard health, care and grooming tips, and I began using Rapid Beard’s care kit a few months before the wedding. The regimen I went with is simple, but it works. Wash your beard with a natural soap that doesn’t have all the additives or chemicals, and be sure to space between washes, skipping a day or two in between each wash. Towel dab to dry, leaving it a bit damp, then apply a quality beard oil by squirting some on your palm and rubbing it into your beard. Do massage your face as you work the oil into your beard, as the skin underneath will soak up some of the oils. By doing this, you will notice your beard gaining thickness, because you’re stimulating the hair follicles, and you will be curing the dreaded beard itch. Use a comb to untangle the hairs. Use beard balm to condition the hair and to style it. I prefer the boar hair beard brush as a final styler, and soother, because it feels great when run through my beard, but it also tends to have a better effect on the wilder beard hairs that haven’t been trained enough to sit tight and right.
Rapid Beard’s approach to a healthy and happy beard is 50/50 botanical and grooming, which works well. Their Beard Grooming and Trimming Kit included a wood comb, a brush and scissors, which I employed throughout the process. The wood comb works decently well, though I think it would be more effective on longer beards. The star, at least for me, was their 100% boar bristle beard brush, which had the best results, for both follicle stimulation and style, because it distributes the beard oil while improving texture, shaping, and training of the hair (especially when training the stache). The grooming sheers came in handy as growth began ramping up, because the faster it grows, at least for me, the harder it is to keep it tamed. All in all, I found the beard care products by Rapid Beard to be a great option for jumpstarting young beards as well as bringing aged and dried beards back to life.
