Founded in 2010 by mother/daughter team Ana Rojas, RN, PhD and Linda Hernandez, Comfy Commuter aims to make every travel experience a comfortable one. The company’s patented travel pillow provides luxuriously soft support for your head, neck and chin while you sleep. It leaves space at the base of the neck and extends up past your ears so that you are not forced forward, and an optional chin strap will keep you from slipping through the front of the pillow as you rest. The pillow also features an attached bag for easy storage and a pocket for your iPod or phone. It weighs just 11 ounces, so it won’t add excess weight to your luggage, and it is easily washable. All of Comfy Commuter’s travel accessories are made in Los Angeles, California.

There’s the traditional U-shaped neck pillows that most air commuters are used to seeing, which don’t quite break down small enough for light travelers, nor work really well to either help you sleep or to allow relief from neck pain – and then there’s the Comfy Commuter pillow. It’s still bulky, and may be too large for super light travelers, but this pillow is definitely a positive advancement. It’s shaped to be a bit more accommodating, and it’s made of stronger and softer material that will help it last longer and feel better. Plus, it rolls up into it’s own little attached bag, which can be nice. Currently, this is the pillow I use, when I have the room to carry it along with me on my flights.
