After the hot summer months have passed and the worst of the heat is over, perhaps it’s time to take that long-haul holiday you didn’t have time for earlier. It makes perfect sense: it’s not as hot anymore and the ocean water will be at just the perfect temperature.
Long-haul holidays are best taken after the summer’s over, when you can chase the autumn sun into warm waters and bearable temperatures.
Cancún, Mexico
Cancún is ideal for families as well as couples. The food is delicious, the weather is simply glorious and the atmosphere is jovial and celebratory. Its natural beauty leaves little to be desired: you’ll have a hard time tearing your eyes away from the green splendour, only to have them alight on the gorgeous ocean.
If going for long walks to admire the natural beauty of the local area isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry. You can go water-skiing on one of many lagoons in the area, or take to the seas for some snorkelling, or even sailing, if you’re up for it. You’d be visiting outside the high season, which means you’ll manage to avoid the hordes of screaming teen ravers down from California, too.
Phuket, Thailand
When visiting Thailand, our best advice to you would be to avoid staying in the capital city of Bangkok for too long. The humid hustle and bustle is definitely something worth experiencing, but you’re far better off experiencing the serene paradise that is Phuket.
After you’ve walked around Old Phuket Town, to sample some of the quirky shops and restaurants, make sure you check out Koh Ta-pu, particularly if you’re a fan of films. It’s an island, now better known as James Bond Island, where ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’ was filmed in 1974.
The Maldives
The Maldives is an island nation, made up of around 26 atolls. Consistently regarded as one of the most beautiful and paradisiacal places in the world, you’d be out of your mind not to take the opportunity to visit these islands.
The air is crisp and clean, the beaches are solid white and the ocean is the deepest shade of blue you’re ever likely to see. Go snorkeling or scuba diving down to the corals and touch the tip of a shark’s tail. It’s an experience you’re highly unlikely to forget.
If you’re seeking a way to follow the sun for a little longer after the summer’s over, then you couldn’t do better than to get away to one of these glorious places.
