Isolation in Isolation

My heart is heavy for individuals who will never know Nature. For people who live their entire lives in cities, and never escape human-touched areas of the world to natural and untouched regions, there is a disconnect from Nature. When you're out there, away from everything, where there are no signs of human technology, signals, structures, or infrastructure, it feels as if a weight is lifted from your shoulders, an itch is tamed upon your skin, a haze is lifted and your mind feels free and open; and listening; wanting. Without a connection to where your from, how can you ever know who you truly are? Perhaps, with a deep search within, surrounded by untouched wilderness, the answers become a lot clearer.

My most recent travels have been dedicated to this search; a search for a connection to the greater unknown. Throughout my travels in Europe and Northern Africa over the past few years, my perspective and mind have truly expanded at a rate I would have thought not possible beforehand. However, with this expansion comes great sadness, as I can see the true affects of our actions and of modern society, and as I grow as a person, a writer, and a traveler, I will continue to focus on my own inner-enlightenment, as well as becoming a voice to help inspire others to travel, to search, to experience, and to connect.
Isolation will always change a person; for when you're alone, without interference of artificial obstructions, you have only yourself and your roots. When you come in contact with the life force of earth, which connects plants, animals and humans to the planet, you will see the greater truths that are blind to those who have not connected.

This is what I found when my travels allow me the chance to escape the human populace and to roam aimlessly, experiencing, listening, and touching Nature – before the opportunity to get out in it, without the marrying of ones soul and mind with the natural elements, happiness, enlightenment and wellness suffer.
Every human is connected to the organic earth without which we are lost, which may explain a lot of the disconnects and issues we as humans experience, personally and socially. Life is much more than working until you're old, it is not so lifeless and depressing as it feels like at times; humans were not meant to worry about money, jobs, debt, materialism, and power. Humans are meant to live in balance with the earth, but without travel and the chance to actually connect with our natural world, how can we ever appreciate it?

When I travel, I like to fade into consciousness and into the experience at hand. Sometimes manmade materials allow me to better connect within, which is necessary to develop ones experience with the world, life, and Nature itself. One of my favorite additions to my latest trip is to isolate my hearing, especially when I may or may not be able to escape completely from human interferences. Especially when I am writing, I tend to play Nature sounds or soft instrumental music as it tends to open up my ability to connect with inspiration and my mind, because I am not being distracted by the human element.
I've tried a lot of different brands over the years, and currently, one of my favorite products available today is by Etymotic. They specialize in a varying range of audible products, not specifically consumer audio. I have had the chance to team up with them and to try out two of their current products, the mk5 Isolator Earphones and the ER•20®XS High-Fidelity Earplugs. As you can see from the images above, they are not your typical earphones for music listening, however the mk5's are pretty good for music – though, if you are hoping for booming bass, this may not be the ideal product for you. I found the mk5's to properly isolate outside noise and distractions nicely, allowing me the ability to achieve the feeling of total isolation, even in areas of the world that are part Nature and partially manmade-influenced. For times when I find myself in either rather loud places, or simply need silence, the ER-20XS's do their job nicely – they provide a solid foundation of isolation, which I've had trouble achieving in the past. You have to fit both of these products into your ear by pulling the top of your ear upward while gently pushing the device into your ear, because if you don't do this right, they can be uncomfortable, ineffective, and may fall out at times.
