It’s My Favorite Time of the Year: Falling Leaves & Cold Travel, featuring Garmont

After months of frying under the summer sun, I am pleased to report that autumn and winter travel are in full swing. I know, most people like to hibernate through the colder months, but me, I enjoy the peace and solitude of exploring natural places. Personally, there’s nothing better than the forest, and one of my favorite times to wander and frolic in the wild wood is just as the leaves change color and begin to fall. When you’re surrounded by a blanket of yellow, red, orange and brown, with what almost appears like falling embers all around, there’s nothing that can spoil such an awe-inspiring experience. For as far as you can see, the forest is aflame with beauty, mystique, and I am filled with a feeling of peace and belonging like no other.

Cold weather camping is certainly not for the weak, but I think it’s an imperative experience for all to have, because not only is it amazing to watch the transformation from summer to autumn and then winter, it’s also the perfect time to gather with family and friends around a campfire. Pack a tent, some warm clothes, some trusty boots, along with a pack of hot dogs for dinner and s’mores for desert, and gather with your favorite people, and I guarantee you will have a memorable time.

If that doesn’t sound like your style, strap up your boots and throw on a coat, and simply explore for a little while, without the phone, without a second thought of anything else in the world but your own thoughts and experience. It’s important in this day and age to disconnect and recharge, for without it, it’s easy to become imbalanced and very easy to fall into a loll, depression, and funk. Since I’m stuck in front of a laptop and phone most of my days, as a writer, I prefer to take several days to get away and to recharge. No matter what’s going on in my life, no matter how feverish I feel from all the things I must accomplish, this is my tried and true way to keep my feet on the ground and my mind out of the fog.

This season, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to test out a new pair of hiking boots by Garmont. Garmont is a very fine outdoor footwear company who produces some of the best shoes made for outdoor enthusiasts, time and time again. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few pairs of theirs, and have always come away very impressed with the quality of build, design, and effectiveness of their footwear. And this time is no different.

Garmont’s Karakum GTX boots are technically a mid-cut shoe, but feel a bit closer to a semi-low rise boot. They offer the same stability and protection of a traditional hiking boot, but are lighter weight and come with a breathability technology that is perfect for long hikes and even hot days. The ballistic fabric upper is paired with a Vibram outsole which offers a dynamic and reliable grip for optimal traction on a variety of terrain. The grip pattern is ideal for uneven terrain, rocky or even urban environments.

Picture
The fabric of the Karakum GTX is a very tight knit of seamless ballistic fabric, which only adds to the appeal and the overall quality of the shoe. Garmont finished the impressive Karakum GTX with nylon and Zama eyelets, Gore-Tex, and inside they outfitted this model with a bi-density EVA midsole for greater comfort. The fit feels great, snug, yet freeing, and does indeed cut down on overheating and cuts moisture with its breathability. The Karakum GTX mid-cut shoe by Garmont is a great choice for trips small and large, and is capable of providing support, protection, comfort and breathability when it matters most.
