The LSTN Ebony wood Encore headphones are some of the more stylish over-ears I've had the pleasure to review. The sound is smooth and the bass is big and natural, but it is the dynamic range that impressed me most. The Encores was designed to inspire a vintage feel while delivering a crisp, huge sound, and I think LSTN accomplished what they set out for.
The ebony is indeed sleek and adds a unique quality to the Encore headphones, and the overall aesthetic appeal is sold by the rich grain of the wood. The plush vegan leather ear cups are ridiculously comfortable – most headphones, no matter how comfy the pads, they tend to either irritate my ears after an hour of use by smashing my ears into my skull or by fitting awkwardly – but the Encore pads are lovely. My only critique is that when handling these bad boys, the aluminum headband feels a little fragile – though, I'm sure the band will last a long time if you're gentle with them, but I think the metal is my only concern. And after one particularly long session, I noticed the metal band leaving an indentation on the top of my head which was uncomfortable for a few hours then the discomfort went away. But that's by no means a deal breaker. The sound coming from the Encores are awesome for today's bass-heavy music – the ebony seems to add a fresh sound with clean bass to some older tunes too. Bob Marley sounded so smooth, so good!
