Man Tips for a Brilliant Beard: OneDTQ’s Beard Care to the Rescue

To grow a glorious beard is among top accomplishments for most men at least. And I would know, though being unlike most men, I do appreciate a righteous beard, but I will say that maintaining one, through to the stage of receiving the honor of truly having a ‘righteous’ beard, is another story entirely. But never fear, I will walk you through the basics and highlight one of my recent goto’s for optimum beard care.

When I was in high school, I had a funky, patchy weirdness that grew in black on my chin and above my lip, but it wasn’t until I reached my late twenties ‘till the ol’ beard really started coming in thick. But wouldn’t you figure, I still have one last little patch on my cheek that refuses to join the crowd, and while I appreciate the notion of dissent, I am getting married in May and really need to get this bad boy in shape. I wouldn’t want to resemble a werewolf by day or homeless, or something, so I reached out to OneDTQ and they sent over their beard care kit to assist me in my battle for a better looking beard.

But first, let’s talk approach…
  • First, let your beard grow. It will go through some funky, particularly itchy segments of time, but be patient.
  • Comb/brush several times a day to stimulate growth.
  • Wash every other day or so, or every other wash, because it’s important to keep your beard clean. With every little bit of milk that saturates your beard at breakfast, the more disgusting your beard becomes throughout the day. Also, are you like me, where sometimes you simply like to touch your beard sometimes? You know, to see if it’s still soft, or all out of whack, or even still there. Point is, wash it often, but not too often. Washing too often will dry it out, and too little will clog your hair follicles and pores.
  • Towel dry but leave slightly damp. Massage oil in after washing for best results. Conditioning will occur, itching will ease and you will stimulate growth by massaging your face.
  • Use beard balm to soothe, condition and style your beard.
  • Trimming and maintenance are always part of the game when you decide to grow out your beard. Some guys think they need to trim often, but I would recommend letting it get a little wild before you tame it. I would suggest readying tutorials or watch YouTube videos if you want to groom yourself, otherwise see a professional for all big jobs.

Now, inside OneDTQ’s beard care kit, they included a bottle of Big Forest Beard Shampoo, Beard Oil, Beard Balm, and their Medicine Man Beard Oil which is advertised as an anti-itch formula. The shampoo has a wonderful subtle scent in bottle, like a woody pine smell, which comes alive when used in a hot shower. I liked how the wash made my beard feel healthier. The Big Forest oil has a stronger scent of forest pine (cedarwood, fir needle, bergamot), which works well at keeping me smelling good as it conditions my beard, and keeping it shiny.

The Medicine Man beard oil has a strong but beautiful scent, ranging from a floral lavender to a spicy rosemary. It does indeed provide a soothing sensation, perfect for drier days when you notice dandruff and/or skin irritation and red patches. OneDTQ’s Beard Balm is another really nice product because it is essentially the beard oil but with shea butter included to create a nice, soft paste that helps to condition your beard, while assisting your ability to shape and maintain the look you desire most. Overall, after spending some time using OneDTQ’s beard care line, I noticed my skin feeling softer, my beard less irritated, while looking healthier, shinier and thicker. Two more months of this regimen and my beard will be ready for my wedding photography, which is awesome, and even though I am still far from reaching true brilliance, I am well on my way. And so can you.
