It’s autumn and I am actively gearing up for a long, harsh winter. For exploring in the woods, you ought to plan for how cold it can get with prolonged exposure, so layering is important. Underneath, I have warm clothes that can also breathe well and soak up moisture to help keep me dry and warm. Then I layer my outer clothes with a heavy duty wool coat like the Mackinaw Coat by Stormy Kromer. I recently reached out to the fine folks at SK so I could test their renowned Mackinaw Coat, and I must say that it’s a mighty fine option for wanderings such as I am planning and prepping for.
Wool clothing has been around for centuries, and there’s good reason for that, because it’s resilient, water resistent, breathable and oh, so warm. Stormy Kromer’s Mackinaw Coat is a reliable option for winter exploration, because it’s heavy duty, thick and warm, and built to last even the most challenging of landscapes. The Mackinaw is crafted from 26 ounces of soft, virgin wool and is fitted with six pockets, five buttons in front and the sizes are made larger so that you can comfortably layer for the worst that Mother Nature can throw at you. Their coats are USA made and that fact is very apparent when touching and wearing the coat, as the quality exceeds my expectations and my imagination.
For this winter, I will feel confident and soothed by my choice in apparel and will be able to focus on the natural world around me, rather than if I need to worry about survival techniques, or simply worrying about the chill. I don’t want my clothing to dictate how long I need to recharge my mind, body and soul in the wilderness, and you shouldn’t have to either. Stormy Kromer makes some of the finest of outdoor clothing and wool hats on the market. Would you like to learn more? Click here for more information on Stormy Kromer’s great products.
