Protect your device with Catalyst’s all-in-one protective case

When traveling, it’s not uncommon to run into a variety of situations that can mean the demise of your ever important personal device. There’s a lot to dread in the moments after your phone or tablet befall something awful… Have you ever dropped your iPhone in the toilet, or have you ever seen it fly out of the pocket in obscenely slow motion, only for it to skid across hard pavement. Have you ever shattered your screen? Or doused the thing in water, only to see the electronics burn up in the water? Well, thankfully, someone has set out to create the ultimate case for nearly all situations.

Personally, when I travel, I tend to pack two cases, one for extremes and one for everyday. My everyday case is a thinner, lightweight, typically more fashionable option, while the other case is typically a shock proof, heavy duty beast of a thing. But what I’ve learned from my backpacking days, there is a point when carrying too much gear becomes a burden rather than a blessing. Too much weight, or too many bulky items can give your back and packing skills a slew of issues.

After recently updating my personal phone (essentially mini tablet) device to the latest model, I went scouring the interwebs to find the latest and best option for keeping my device safe. As of the last couple years, I’ve backpacked abroad less and have focused more on wilderness travel, camping and hiking, so a solid case is even more important for me these days. I often take photos on my iPhone, and often flirt with the fine line of destruction, be it taking photos over a river, or high up in elevation. Anything can happen at anytime, so it’s important for me to take proper precautions. With this new upgrade, I reached out to Catalyst to give their newly famed case a try. And I was very impressed with the results…

The Catalyst case is a proper all-around, all-purpose protective case, meant for underwater and extreme situations. While it won’t save your phone if you drop it from a mountain, the Catalyst case does have the capability of serious diminishing the odds of destruction for your device. It’s advertised as being the optimum solution for water sports, diving, and other water-related travel activities, because of its 33 feet/10-meter deep underwater IP-68 protection rating. The case encloses your device in a 360-degree protection, with thick side bumpers, and clear front and back panels that maintain total usage and capability of the device, while also keeping a layer between it and the elements.

The Catalyst case adds a bit of size to already thin phones, but it’s not as obscenely noticeable as, say Otterbox. My phone still fits smoothly into my pocket, with the case adding a more sticky base, which helps the phone from slipping and falling, or escaping out of slick pockets. The enclosure provides a 6.6 feet/2-meter drop rating of MIL STD 810G, which means it can take a six foot drop, which I’ve tested and came away impressed. Catalyst advertises their cases as snow proof, dirt and sand proof, easy to install/remove (which it is, surprisingly), and with true sound acoustics. All in all, I found Catalyst’s cases to be the best option for the traveling lifestyle, especially if you lean more toward adventure and wilderness travel. They’re built very well, feel good, go together smoothly, and do provide optimum protection for when I’m on the go.
