Gaming has captured the hearts and imaginations of modern generations for a few decades now, so while the industry moves toward accomplishing a true virtual reality, there are still ways for gamers to bring the experience to life. From 3D televisions to interactive chairs, as well as custom controllers and professional gear, the options are there to bring together a pretty righteous setup that almost brings the game to life. Almost.

Though it seems like it will still be some time before we reach the capability of fooling our senses, the current gaming experience can be mind blowing and utterly captivating. Imagine though, for a moment, what it will be like, to be hooked up to a game system that feels and looks as authentic as real life does… Will be become to immersed that we forget our true reality as humans? With enough time in the virtual world, will we forget ourselves? Our family? Even further… Has that already happened?

While you can’t quite fool the senses into believing that the game world is the real world, yet, you can make the experience a thoroughly exciting affair. In today’s crazy electronic race to A.I., humans have created some very impressive screens, and high speed chips that can make a game look pretty damn real. So once you have the system, the right screen, you will want to decide between a booming audio system that can shake the floor and a pair of isolation headphones. There are gaming headsets, too, like the Custom Game by Beyerdynamic, that immerse you in the world of your game. The only thing I wish they had available is that of a smell-related accessory that brings the aroma of the game alive; though, I can imagine that being awful smelling at times, depending which game you play. (Update: A company by the name of Scent Sciences is working on the ‘ScentScape,’ but is currently in development.)

Beyerdynamic is a Germany based company that specializes in a range of high end audio, from studio headphones to gaming headsets, and microphones. The Custom Game headset is their answer to the custom craze that gamers take such pride in. For optimum immersive experience, Beyerdynamic has outfitted the Custom Game’s with a closed headset. It has a cable remote control to PC, and a customizable design that comes with six interchangeable options. Or you can always make your own. To complete the gaming experience, the Custom Game’s have a high-quality microphone, so you can chat with your buddies or talk trash to your enemies. Ergonomically, they work well to prolong gameplay, as the body fits well, the ear pads are soft, and the microphone is versatile in its flexibility and placement options.

What I think is the most interesting aspect about this headset is the sound slider they incorporated, which allows you to switch between for audio profiles, each meant for a different audio experience. The construction is solid, the ear pads are soft and comforting, rather than becoming wearisome or painful with too much use. A standard 6.35mm jack adapter and a 1.5m Y-extension cable comes with this headset. Overall, after receiving a pair from Beyerdynamic to trial and review, I found them to be a quality headset with good sound, and features unlike most other headsets on the market.
