My hometown is considered neither a vacation hotspot, nor a tropical paradise – Ohio can be absolutely brutal in the winter! This past year was probably the worst, but I do imagine that most parts of the continental United States will say the same. For me, I love winter, but I can't stand it when the temperatures descend to anything below 10 – because it then feels too awful to even breathe, let alone function as if the weather were normal. The unfortunate timing of when my last trip ended had put me back near Columbus, Ohio for a few months until my current USA road trip started. That meant I had to prepare for an entire winter in USA midwest.
Proper preparation meant that I must get a whole new wardrobe, as everything I had when I came back from Europe in 2013 was my backpack and a few ragged clothes. While I had to consider the temperature and the weather, I also had to think about the look a bit, right? So, what I did was buy a few basics, like cold weather undergarments, a heavy coat, and some winter boots. Past that, I had to force myself to attend a local mall, where I found some good deals on some more fashion-conscious winter wear.
Sometimes I team up with various companies that want me to try out their product, and with some lucky timing for me, I was able to assist this clothing ordeal with the nifty vest you see here. Fashion and clothing isn't something that I typically cover here on Eye & Pen, but I think it's something that I will start to explore more in the future. This U.S. Polo Color Block Flag Vest is pretty lightweight, and it fits nice and comfortable. It keeps you warm, without making you feel constricted or too stuffy. The colors are specific to the wearer, but I dig the blue – it sticks out, especially in winter landscape treks, and it's subtle enough not to be overly loud if worn in public. I'm quite the fan! It sure helped me endure this past winter's horrid weather.
