One of the most peaceful and fulfilling experiences one can have is spending time in the natural world, where there are no more sounds of humans, or cars, or plains, or civilization. There’s a peace, a quiet beautiful settling that comes over a wild forest, and with time spent wandering brings a powerful settling inside that our modern cities and modern way of life do not. Perhaps my favorite way to experience nature is to wander awhile until I feel at home in the animate world, then I stop and setup a hammock, and then I rest. Sometimes I read, and sometimes I simply meditate and listen. It’s transcendental, and better than any pharmacological substance or therapy for stress.

Not all hammocks are created equal, and some on the market are more notorious for hurting people than others. If you’re in the market a hammock, always check the internet for reviews and safety reports, then study the product yourself. Make sure the support straps are strong and of quality, and be sure the stitching and seam work are up to par, because if there are issues with the build out or the material, then you could be in for a world of hurt when you’re least expecting it. Sure, a hammock can go up nicely, and can even hang for a period of time without issue, but what if you fall asleep, and what if it fails you, and you drop, and fall four, six, ten feet… deep in the woods? Yikes. That brings me to another bit of advice: Always test the thing prior to heading out on any trip.

Today, I thought it would be nice to showcase a quality hammock that comes loaded with features that majority of other hammocks do not. My friends over at FiveJoy asked me to review their camping hammock, which is a lightweight, easy to use, pop up hammock, which comes with a mosquito netting already attached. Setup is as easy as you could want, considering it pops up and is ready to be fixed to the tree. On overnights, hiking through the woods is tough enough, considering all the gear one must take; which is an area where FiveJoy succeeds… Their hammock folds up in a circular carrying case, which doesn’t add a lot to already full packs.

The material is solid. Perhaps, not the strongest hammock I’ve ever tested, but for the price, FiveJoy has delivered. The hammock is compact and portable, and is built of durable, tear and mildew resistant, quick dry material. The fabric is comfortable, and soft, and inviting, and almost always makes me fall asleep when I relax in it and meditate. All in all, I came away impressed with FiveJoy’s hammock. The mosquito net is a lovely touch!
