I’m a headphone snob; I have to be honest. I love a good pair of headphones… There’s something about being immersed in a world of music, where all else in the outside world no longer matters. Nothing gets better than turning off the lights and turning up the tunes, and fading off into the mind. I rarely write without headphones, and even when I’m working on my novel, I have chill step and atmospheric beats pumping through my headphones. It makes all the issues that everyday modern life brings about go away, providing my mind some much needed respite by allowing me the chance to balance myself.
Today, I have the opportunity to talk about the GMP8.35 Over-ear headphones by German Maestro. The GMP8.35s are a unique headphone, as they are aesthetically different than any other style I’ve seen prior. They are all black, with a powerful look, like some audio-industrial experiment. The look and feel of the headphones reminds me of a perfect melding between consumer and studio audio. The housing and brackets are made of a strong plastic, and built to last years of enjoyment. The fit is comfortable overall, although a bit tight at first, as the ear pads are thin, covered in black synthetic leather, and the padded headband holds with a strong retention, fitting snug over head.
The GMP8.35s don’t come with a case or bag, or many frills or extra features, but they have a very nice sound acoustically, offering dynamic bass and a clean, high transparency in the mid-high range. The sound quality is perhaps less bassy than say, Sennheiser, but they have a better balanced range than most headphones I’ve tried. I tested these headphones with a series of genres of music and they held up very well, giving me a clean, smooth sound, that was not overpowered by bass, nor absent from it, and the mid-to-high range was crystal clear and warm. I have no complaints, as the GMP8.35s by German Maestro are solid headphones and worth the price tag (which is something I’ve found I can’t always say about some headphones on the market).
