As the chilly transformation from Autumn to Winter works its way across the landscape, heating becomes an important topic for all people. Personally, I live far out in the country and must rely on propane gas to get me through the winters, but since there are times when the system fails, and I must run electricity through my generator, which doesn’t handle the whole house heating system, I am always flirting with the possibility of literally being left out in the cold during the worst of the snowstorms. So, that realization has led me to research and test out alternative heating sources.

While heating my home with propane gas is not the cheapest, nor my preferred method, it is difficult to find alternatives that are sustainable and green to the earth. Sure, if I could afford a total switchover to solar panels then I would. If my home had the physical capabilities of employing a wood burner, then I would love to go that route as the smell of burning firewood is delectable and so comforting. So, since modern technology and circumstance dictate my options, I have moved toward a source of heating that is portable and easy to setup in minutes in case something happens.

My friends over at Mr. Heater are among the best in the realm of portable heating and other outdoors and industrial tools. Today, I feature their 125,000 BTU Forced Air Kerosene Heater… Why? Because it’s a beast and it works for up to 3,125 square feet. So, if you simply wish to work in your garage through the winter, or if you’re like me and am in need of a versatile, yet powerful heater that can bridge the gaps in home heating, then this may be an option for you. Besides, if you think 125,000 BTU is too much heat, Mr. Heater manufactures options ranging from 50,000 to 210,000 BTU.

This 125K BTU heater is ideal for larger areas, large houses, garages, and is suggested for job sites. What makes the heater ready for construction is not only the power and heat it’s capable of producing, but it goes into how and what it’s made of: dual powder coated tubular steel handles, pneumatic rubber tires, and a split upper shell for maintenance, which Mr. Heater describes as a few reasons why you can expect long life of faithful service. This Forced Air Kerosene heater is equipped with a high output fully enclosed motor, controlled by a factory installed thermostat and has an overheat safety shutdown feature that can very simply save lives.

This heater heats up large areas very quickly, and is very easy to setup and use, which took me by surprise. Sure, the shipping box is large, but the heater itself comes together with ease, and even in the worst situation, you can have heat pumping through your cold areas in a matter of minutes. It’s rated at 125,000 BTU per hour, which can operate at 9.5 hours when using a full 8.5 gallon tank; for use with kerosene 1 and 2, diesel 1 and 2, home heating oil and JP-8. Other features built into this awesome and powerful heater is continuous ignition, a fuel gauge, and is mounted on a set of heavy duty wheels that can both take the heat, but also makes it easily portable.

All in all, I found Mr. Heater’s 125K BTU Forced Air Kerosene Heater to be top notch. Setup is simple and easy, ignition is a piece of cake, functionality is as good as it gets and maintenance (thus far) has been minimal, and since the unit was designed so well, even that’s relatively no issue.
