Finding the right boot that can withstand hours of walking, yet also remain stylish, as to also mix with occasions where dressing up and looking good are a requirement, can be very difficult to find. Most boots are either built for industrial work, outdoor adventure, or for style and dress. But most boots don’t cross over and meet multiple needs and styles. It’s not typical to find a boot that can be both dress and adventure, though I have tried on some that can be adventure and industrial, but it is the former combination that interests me today.
When I backpacked around Europe, I literally traveled with the boots on my feet and nothing else. This tact did well for me, because I was walking up to ten hours a day, and rarely needed to look good or fashionable. And I wasn’t doing a lot of wilderness travel at the time, so my boots lasted me about eight of the nine months, until I decided to hike up a mountain in Scotland, and well… Let’s just say, my boots died an awful death. But now-a-days, I am traveling different, and while I am doing more wilderness travel, I am also experiencing more high end travel and therefore am required to look quite a bit less homeless as I might have.
Maians Footwear has bridged the gap between fashion and function with their Rufo boots. Maians Footwear designs all sorts of styles, but today I thought it would be neat to consider one of their most unique styles of boot and how they can be worn for both dress and exploration. The Rufo boot is not for outdoor adventure travel, but I believe they can work for both fashion and travel, due to their stylish design, but also their comfortable fit. They are made of suede, so trekking in the mud is out, but if you’re exploring Paris on a nice summer day, then these may be the boot for you.
When I spent nine months exploring Europe with a rucksack on my back, I simply didn’t have room for anything else. I didn’t even carry a tent with me, as I frequented couchsurfers, hostels and B&Bs. And if you wish to travel light, while exploring each day, as well as frequenting high end eateries, clubs, and nice hotels, then you will come to the choice of having to lug around multiple shoes, or choose a hybrid boot that can withstand the walking, while remaining stylish enough for the more lavish destinations.

The suede is beautiful and soft, and although suede can be difficult to maintain on hard days of weather, they are light fitting and comfortable, which can aid your feet on long walks. The tread on the bottom is unique, and not meant for mountain climbing by any means, but it will provide you with optimum traction on cobblestone roads and slick concrete. The Rufo boot is both stylish and functional in an almost minimalist way.
