In life, there are few experiences better than spending time with family and friends in the great outdoors. For me, it’s the peace that nature provides that helps to bring together fellowship. I get my favorite people together and we get away from the human world, away from the cities, away from the cars and trains and planes, and we simply enjoy each other’s company among the amazing wilderness. We each setup a tent deep in the woods, then start a fire and huddle around it for dinner, and few memories are as rich to me as those times spent with loved ones.

Throughout the summer months, it can be such a joy to have a rotating cast of characters who color my social world while we each spend time reconnecting with nature, enjoying its therapeutic calling, but without an extra set of gear, tent, sleeping bags, chairs, cookware, it makes it difficult to accommodate everyone. So recently I expanded my gear setup with GSI Outdoors’ beautiful Pioneer Camp Set, which consists of 15-pieces of porcelain enamelware with stainless accents.

Included in the versatile and complete GSI Outdoors’ Pioneer Camp Set is an 8-cup percolator (which works wonders at brewing coffee abroad), a 3-quart kettle with lid (a most wonderful addition for group cooking), a 9.6-inch frypan, a set of four 12-ounce cups with handles, a set of four 6-inch bowls, and a set of four 10-inch plates. The Pioneer Camp set comes ready for immediate use for up to four people, yet since they’re so easy to clean, I’ve accommodated larger groups with this set.

Each piece of this 15-piece set is finished beautifully in either royal blue or an attractive forest green color, with speckled white, and is rimmed with a brilliant stainless steel finish. Each piece has a heavy glaze applied, and has been kiln-hardened to 1000° F (537.8° C) twice, which marries the beautiful, glossy texture of the cookware with long-lasting and superior durability. Overall weight of this package comes in at about 8.2-lbs.

The enduring steel construction is dishwasher safe and suited nicely for either indoor or outdoor use. They are very easy to clean, even outdoors, as just about every liquid and food I tested them with came off right away. The kettle and frypan may need a bit of time to soak if you’ve made something particularly sticky, or if something has burned, but all in all, GSI Outdoors really knocked this set out of the park. Overall, I found the Pioneer Camp set to be of high quality make, material and built for longevity whether used in the home or out in the wild.
