Review: Thin Dream Pillow by Lofty Sleep

As an avid traveler, I seem to rough it more than I perhaps should, because as my trips get longer and more demanding, the more wear and tear I notice on my body. Where simple fatigue once burdened me, now chronic issues have become mainstays in my everyday life. Sure, some of that comes with age, no doubt, but I can distinctly track my neck and back pains to certain trips. Some trips were road trips, where I spent anywhere from five to fifteen hours a day in a car (with awful bucket style seats), and others were backpacker trips, where I lived out of a heavy rucksack that sat on my shoulders like a hundred-plus pound weight.

No matter how much my back and neck suffer as a result of my travels, I will never regret them, because my mind has evolved and has expanded, and forever I will carry my experiences with me; experiences that continue to provide me with wisdom and knowledge about the world, people and places, while new perspectives aid me in my ability to see clearly and to reason when real life requires it. So, with much of the last year being focused on regional travel, natural travel and novel writing, I’ve noticed my issues working their way into my sleep, and into my more physical days.

I’ve been noticing myself wake up in the middle of the night more and more often, because of discomfort or because of sleeping in a bad position that affected sleep, my mood, and my level of productivity. So, seeking help, I reached out to Lofty Sleep to check out their speciality memory foam pillows, with the hope that I can forge a healthier sleep pattern, as well as sleep positions that work for my conditions. Most pillows, I’ve found at least for myself, are much too tall, and are often overfilled, or simply consist of a weak material inside that fades throughout the night, which then irritates my neck. There are somedays that I wake up and I can barely move my neck, because I either slept in a bad position or with a bad pillow.

Lofty Sleep’s thin dream pillow is a new take on the traditional pillow that comes in a max of 3” in height, so if you’re like me and are in need of a low profile, firmer pillow, they’ve got you covered. They describe their thin pillow as an ‘Ultra-Thin Dream Pillow,’ because it’s engineered for optimum ergonomic effect, for stomach and back sleepers who struggle with sore necks and other issues. Their pillows are made of a cooling, plush memory foam that is firmer than most comparable pillows, as it’s made of a non-stinky ultra-premium foam that comes in a ventilated cotton cover to help promote cooler sleep. Their pillows are made with a quality foam that will not get lumpy, nor does it carry a scent like some other memory foams. And best of all, it’s eco-friendly, being made of a foam that’s free of toxic chemicals or adhesives.

Lofty’s thin pillow is at just the right height to relax your neck and shoulders, while allowing proper spinal decompression, which I noticed the first night I used it, as my shoulders were happier. However, there is a bit of a transitional period, as after a couple of nights I had one of the worst pulls in my neck, which after some testing I pinpointed to my inability to remain on my back throughout the entire night. If you’re like me and you need support while sleeping on your side, then this pillow will not be the one-size-fix-all, but it is a good step. I combine their thin pillow to start my night, with a side sleeper style that I switch me throughout the night when I notice that I’m sleeping better on my side. This is, without a doubt, something I need to work on and master, but it is something a lot of people go through.
